Anyone have an Optima Battery?

Wow good thing I could never afford one, I'll just stick to walmart brand they work fine for me. As I see it car batteries are like windsheild wipers expensive and wear out over time but cheap enough to replace over and over.

I got tired of going in and having to deal with the aggravation of testing the battery, charging the battery, reinstalling the battery only to have it take a shit again. And not just on the truck: we bought two, for two different vehicles at the same time. Neither lasted 2 years, the warranty replacement on the truck didn't last 18 months.

Bought two Interstates, and never had an issue (sorry, Chad).

No problem ,we cant all be perfect dave...:D

I tell ya, the AGM batteries from Deka are the $h!t!!! I got a brand new one from Chad, and it was a dud. I was having doubts about this battery, but met up with Chad, he swapped it out with no probs, and I have beat the hell out of this battery back and forth, side to side!! When my altenator went out I was heading to KY, I drove about 60 miles with headlights, heater, and stereo on til it dropped below 10 volts. Wouldn't even start the truck. By the time I took tha altenator off, went the store and got another one and installed in the truck (about 1.5 hrs) I didn't even have to charge or jump it off, had enough juice (from recovering) that it started the truck :icon_surprised: I plan to get at least one more for my truck. With all the electronics and gadgets and lights and stereo I have in my truck, this battery has got me hooked!! Interstate batteries, junk, there commercial batts last less than a year. Optima, also junk, ever since the company that bought them out, they've went to $h!t...
Thanks again Chad :icon_thumby:

Funny you say that becuase the Motorcraft battery in my truck (a Johnson Controls battery, just like an Interstate. Basically an Interstate Premium white case in a black case) has held up just fine under many severe start situations.

Maybe they have a different company making the automotive batts, but the commercials dont last. I've replaced at least 60 or 70 batts in a 6 month, all the drivers said that the batts were less than a year old....

I have went through 3 walmart batteries in the past year. The only think keeping me from getting a different brand is that they will just give me a new one for free.

Last three DieHards I've bought were absolute garbage. Didn't last two years, any of them. And I don't have a bumpin' stereo or gobs of electrical draw - just a stock truck.
did you have a plain diehard or a diehard platinum? they are made by 2 different company's the platinums are actually a rebadged odyssey

Im sorry guys, but i would have to disagree....I had an optima yellow top for about 5 years. First, i had it in a 4x4 suzuki sidekick-no crazy electronics, just an aftermarket cd player, set of fog lights and a lot of neon lights inside...haha Well anyways, i beat the crap out of that truck, gave a lot of jumstarts, lasted through two winters. Then, I flipped the truck, and totaled it. Then, I put the batterie in a 90 nissan pathfinder 4x4, also with nothing fancy, just fog lights, cd player. Never had any problems with it, but totaled the nissan in a head on collisian, and it got towed and given to a scrapyard when i was in the hospital. The optima would have prolly still worked
that was probably one of the good ones before they moved thier production down to mexico which is when they started turning to shit

we run interstate blems in our tractors at work ($35 a piece) and havent had any problems

Are we talking about a red top or a yellow top?

I bought a yellow top and its working fine after 6 months (big deal, right?) I've heard they are hit or miss. But if you get a good one, they work great. Purely word of mouth though.

My son has my old YT in his FocusSVT. 5 years old and still working fine.

slo-vo: They were regular run of the mill Die-Hards. Same as I had always bought for 20+years.

Your welcome Rick and thanks for the kind words good to hear some feedback,In my book they beat the new Optima hands down.

Point is I had bought DieHards - just plain old DieHards - for 20 years and they'd last 4-6 years each, anywhere I lived, even in the ass-freezingest winters in northern Hellinois, without a garage. Never needed a jump-start, never hesitated to perform. The last three never made it to their second birthdays. Now I'm no expert in battery construction and engineering, but what changed?

quality control, dont know who really makes the diehards but they most likely sent production out of the states and like optima they went to shit....
