I still have windows xp and it works wonderfully. I never put in windows vista is shit...perhaps even Windows 7 would be good for my next computer

I agree, theres no use for vista anymore unless you already have a disc for it.

Where in my first posts did I in any way, shape or form, express, suggest or imply, that I was soliciting opinions on Windows Vista?

Show me where?

If you cannot help then be silent.

I run XP on several computers, I will continue to do so.... for as long as I can.

Frankly I'd still be running Windows 2000 on one or two systems if it wasn't for the fact that all the extant websites dropped any pretense of supporting those browsers that would run on Win2k.

the newest version of my favorite audio ripping program has dropped support for Win2k
with their newest update released in late November .

Have either of you noticed that IE9-Beta has been out for several months and
it's official release is anticipated any day... AND that in the forseeable future
website designers will start to shift support away from IE8 and the equivelent Firefox
(and other browsers versions...) and migrate to IE9 (or anticipated) newer versions
of FireFox/Opera/Chrome/Safari all of which will likely not run under XP either.

OR that there are useful computers, that WILL NOT run Windows7
but will run Vista... and the new browsers WILL run under Vista.

HOWEVER you feel about it, XP's days are "numbered", I give XP another 12-18months
24months at the outside... before it becomes as useless as Win2k and Win98

And frankly I think you should EACH send me a copy of Win7 Pro (the OEM pack will be fine)
for speaking out of turn.

Instead of asking "why do you want to do that?" and possibly learned something
you made an unwelcome statement/opinion of "You don't want to do that!"
based on NO information

That all being said Vista isn't all that bad... it has some neat capabilities if you only look to see them
Yes it has it's annoying little manerisms (like UAC which can be turned off)

Frankly I believe Vista is to Win7 what Win2k is to XP, there really isn't a whole lot of difference between them.

But there are many machines that will NEVER run 7... I have some of them and want to extend their life as
much as possible and to that end I want Vista installs for them "on standby"

I got used to using it on my Dell 1525 Notebook that came with Vista from the Factory
And that notebook WILL NOT Run XP without hardware changes That are simply impractical...

it WILL run Win7. I have done so as a "Trial", but when the trial expired I went back to Vista
Buisness SP2

Now with all that ACCEPT I know as much as YOU do about the subject
and ACCEPT that I have definite REASONS for asking for what I asked for.

Hey I'd ask for a Win7 Pro CoA if I realistically expected someone to have it... and be willing to share...

I'd LOVE to run Win7 on a couple of my computers, my primary desktop
will run Win7, as will my notebook.

My Backup notebook however will not, it is simply are NOT upgradeable to win7.
It will run Vista.

SO what I want is either a CoA read off a junk computer.
rare indeed is the factory computer that has actually USED the CoA on the case most are "OEM" clones
that are pre-activated and the CoA is only used when someone needs to "Restore" the system.

SO, if someone has upgraded to Win7 and NOT peeled their Vista Buisness 32bit sticker off
(especially if it's a Dell, Compaq or HP computer)....

Don't worry about WHY... that's my problem, not yours.

Win Vista

Allan,

Late Merry Christmas,,,, This is one you can keep, Like I stated this is a BURNED copy of Vista Home Prem 32 and 64 bit, I used it to install on my laptop here and it went great, I think I remember you stated you have the COA, That was the same situation I was in when I got this disc, If you want to PM me an address I will get it out in the mail as soon as I hear back from you. With this disc you wait until after all is done to enter COA, it will tell you so many days to register and verify genuine software. But You are more than welcome to it.

Allen -
Support for WinXP (x86) SP2 ends on 13 July 2010. After that date, computers running WinXP (x86) SP2 "will no longer receive software updates from Windows Update" (i.e., Automatic Updates will not work and Windows Update website will not be accessible) until SP3 has been installed. Extended Support for WinXP SP3 will continue through 08 April 2014.

Note

There's no SP3 for the 64-bit version of Windows XP. If you're running the 64-bit version of Windows XP with SP2, you have the latest service pack and will continue to be eligible for support and receive updates until April 8, 2014.

I can't say much for IE8.

Also you can get legit and shady ISOs of vista from thepiratebay.org

I often times need to reinstall machines with factory vista, and need the disks. If this is the case it is legit to DL that version of windows for install.

Also, for your older machine, look for Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs - XP but built with the mobile kernel. - was only release to volume licensed business for P3 systems. 500Mhz 128MB ram - works smooth.
Another thing you can try is NOT upgrading to SP3 if you can help it.

PS skip vista (even on older machines) win7 still runs faster. The only thing not all hardware will run on win7 you may have to use vista drivers or loss that device.
MORE and MORE legacy sound cards are coming out with win7 drivers.

I'm not looking for advice on what to do... so I really wish people would stop offering advice
I didn't ask for. the "you don't Want Vista" when Infact I don't "want" Vista, but NEED Vista
is especially annoying.

And while Win7 is "nice" changing "Cards" isn't possible on a Notebook
AND on older notebook computers that WILL run vista, but will NOT run Win7
That needs to be updated for compatibility... (and Vista is the only place to go)

Vista brings one thing to the party that isn't nearly as well implemented in XP

Every try to Sync a notebook with a desktop when both weren't running the same OS?
Or sync a notebook with a desktop when EITHER was running XP? and the other Vista or win7?
Vista to vista? Syncronizing is child's play, more so for Win7 to Win7
I'm told that Vista to 7 works nearly as well....

I suppose I'll find out....

I have several computers that would be much more useful running vista than they are running XP.
the average user has few problems with Vista and I've had fewer security complaints with vista
systems than older (more vulnerable) XP Systems

I have no issues (either political or functional) with Vista, would I rather be running Win7? absolutely!
But that won't help on the computers that will not run Win7

I'm not looking for advice on what to do... so I really wish people would stop offering advice

I know what I'd LIKE to do but unlike all the people offering
unsolicited (off point) advice I know what is POSSIBLE with the
hardware I have on hand.

Yeah, microsoft will comntinue to support XP-sp3 'til... whenever.
Not that date is set in stone, it'll probably be extended... probably
more than once.

why assume that I have only one HDD or that I don't also own a screwdriver?
