ok so frist off i have my 89 ext cab, it has a 2.9 v6 and a 5spee with a manual tcase. well i kno the d28 is crap. i have a tj d30. if i get shafts for it,rig up control arms, get a drive shaft made, use zj coils and get a manual hub conversion could i make it work with my rangers stock case? the 30 is out of a 02 tj. its open/with 3.73's. sound good? anything i missed?:icon_welder:

look in the tech library, theres writeups on them.....

the bII is on the back burner, im putting together the ranger, thus the great ranger part sell off i got goin on, im able todo my original plans for this longbed once again cause fate has brought me back my old ranger :)

I woudnt put the 30 in anything. I have on in my Heep, and as soon as I have the cash, its getting 60's front and rear. No sense starting out with a weak axle.

my thoughts exactly, tradin a d28 ttb for a solid d30 is like tradin herpes for aids

The 95-up D30 it pretty much as strong as the D35...
I though you already had an SAS truck paleblue?

I like to compare it to trying to polish up a nice steaming turd.

na. polishing a terd would be getting moly axles made for the d28, puttin a brand new locker in it etc....

I have moly axles in my 30.... that's just becuase the PO put them in.
if ur gonna put in a d30 why not just get a d44 and shorten one side 6" poof, u can use a eb axle in that side and its CONSIDERABLY stronger then a d35 or d30. sure its a little bit more work, but u wont have to upgrade when u want to run bigger then 33's LOL

Same U-joints as a D35, sooo much stronger  The bigest reason for the D30 is the matching bolt pattern, width and mounts for suspension links.

ya, they are so much stronger, everyone always says OHHH smae u joints, well guess what, the u joints in a solid axle are nowhere under the same stresses as those found in TTB trucks. can u buy moly shafts for a ttb d35?? can u upgrade u joints?? dont get me wrong, i know the ttb 35 is a stout axle, but really, id rather have a solid axle up front that i know isnt known for blowin with 33" tires (like d30's)

duno why everyone dogs the dana 30, i see them in XJ, wranglers all the time with 35s + and they seem to hold up fine, basically any axle with a lead foot is gonna break, just a mater of time, and the dana 30 is a good, cheap setup to get a SAS started, and dosent the dana 35 have more than 2 u-jounts, thats atleast 1 more part to fail
