Anyone encountered steering binding after body lift?

well... this probably won't explode.
Just installed a 3in body lift kit from PA and the steering is feeling a bit clunky now. I used the steering extender included in the kit (pic). Fully extended The bolt holes are about 3 millimeters off without it.

The kit instructions offered procedures in case binding occurs (pic). They seem straightforward however I'm a visual learner and I'm having trouble.

Has anyone had/resolved this problem on their rig? Also any pics would help too [emoji106] .

Mine was lumpy for awhile until I got the rag joint exercised enough. It came out of it eventually.

Not a lift guy. I have a hard enough time keeping the stock version going. Before doing any mods to the column mounting , I would loosen both bolts in the picture and try to wiggle the assembly. You want the parts to bottom out in the connections to the shortest length. Light hammer taps may help. Maybe even drive it a few miles . If it doesn't ease, then do the column drilling. Please post results :icon_thumby:

Yes, after my 3" BL I had a bad bind in the steering with the double rag joint shaft. I changed to a 1991 shaft IIRC and that fixed it. I also messed with a jeep XJ shaft for a while but could not get the length right.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I should have some time to tinker with it tomorrow so I'll update when I do that

So I tried loosening the bolts and wiggling/light hammer tapping them together to no avail.

Right now I'm attempting to do what PA instructed but I can't figure out where I'm supposed to drill these holes out

This is what the instructions are referring to correct?

With insulation removed

Okay so I removed the clamp and 5 bolts from the flange and pulled it out a bit. Then I drove it around the block and the steering felt back to normal. So I think what I'll need to do is grind off a little bit of the bottom of the flange where the steering column sits and see if that does the trick

I still say give it awhile to work out.

I was all set to go find a u-joint setup and whatever it took... and it went away on its own after the rag joint that only flexed so much in 20 years learned it could flex more.

Roughly how long did it take for the steering to return to normal for you?

Not being a dd a month or two.

Alright I'll give it a couple weeks and see what happens. Thanks
