Anyone else drive RC cars/trucks/boats/crawlers/planes?

I was heavy into crawlers when they first come out. I finished 35nd in the nation the first USRCCA nationals and 31st in the second nationals, then moved to Western WA and the closest place to try to qualify is about a 5 hour drive one way and tough to get away while running a resort in the summer.

Back then everyone ran a different rig, you could not buy and off the shelf crawler they where all custom. The advent of cheap off the shelf crawlers has taken much of the fun out of the sport

I got a traxxas slash 2wd brushless velineion, bfg tires, 3-cell lipo. This is an old picture but I have the traxxas 2.4ghz controller and receiver too. Looking to get a axial honcho crawler.

I fly the RC model airplanes. (41 yrs flying the real ones across the N Atlantic & Europe and this is like starting all over) Have about 10 various fuel and electrics. Disassembled I can get about three into my Ranger under the cover and in the cab. Lots of fun.

legoms013, IMO i suggest staying away from axials, i think they're overpriced for what they are. and they do not feature worm drive diff's. a rig that has MOA and worm drive performs best

Really? I'm not going to be competing just I'd like to have one to dink around with now and again. What other brand would you suggest?

me and my bro got a gas powered traxxas back when we were in high school (before i got my license) it was fast as hell, we havent driven it in a while though, i actually just got it out of my parents attic yesterday, i'm gonna fix it up and sell it or drive it, whichever happens first. Have you played with the newer (larger) brushless electric systems using lithium polymer batteries? This stuff puts Nitro powered R/Cs out to pasture lol.

I have a 4200mha 3 cell lipo for my traxxas slash (with the velineon brushless motor and ESC) and cruising along at half throttle (maybe 25-35mph???) I can squeeze the trigger and the front wheels will come off the ground and the whole thing catches air like a sail and becomes airborne. Sucker is fast (if I'm gradual on speeding it up that is)....makes for some seriously hard crashes though if I'm not careful. I want to make a conservative estimate that my 2wd slash does around 45-55 mph and has gobs of tire roosting, bead removing, tread deforming power. Its unreal how powerful the new brushless motors coupled with a lipo battery are these days. Give me two feet in front of a jump and I can jump it.

ive got a losi mrc that i just picked up a set of metal lockers and pro line flat irons for. running 2c lipos, home made beadlocks with 3 oz. of solder in both front wheels. also have a tmaxx 3.3 extended chassis that i put a .26 maxx in and it will pull a wheelie for about 50 feet! then it crashes.

with a lvc theres no need to worry. i ran the same lipo battery for 2 years in my maxx for the servos and lights and never had an issue. problem comes from overdrawing or overcharging. a lvc (low voltage cutout) will prevent the overdrawing. a good charger will prevent overcharging. with my mrc and a stock battery i get about 18 mins run time. a good nicad battery i get 25 mins. lipo 45 nuff said.

think im going to convert my tmaxx to brushless though. electric= instant torque and no fumes, no glow plugs, no retuning if the weather changes, no expensive fuel, no clutches to burn out, no restarting it if you flip it over. of course without nitro i wouldnt have the story about the scars on my leg from some nitro fuel that squirted out my exhaust. want to get a slash and maybe a mamba brushless system for it.

i suggest losi's products. u can buy the losi night crawler for relatively cheap rtr, or if u wanna drop some real cash, get the losi comp crawler, its basically the night crawler from hell upgraded, but not rtr, and it has a dig setup tranny
