I think I'd like to take the family on vacation there this year. Anyone have any tips on things to see do and places to stay?

Yes sir, ive stayed one town north in Fenwick island, DE like 9 years in a row. Fantastic family vacation spot, great beaches, the whole deal. There are alot of high-rise hotels and things of that nature right on or just off the beach in OC, you should have no problem finding somewhere to stay. If you're looking for more of a relaxing, vacation, stay more towards the north end of town, or over the DE line. If you want to be right in the center of the action, south is alittle better. As far as things to do, its hard to beat OCMD's mini golf. Professor Hacker's at the north end is awesome. I wouldn't particularly reccomend the boardwalk, its got more tatoo parlors and sleazy tee shirt shops than anything else. Renting jet-skis from Harpoon Hannahs or Sharks cove is really fun, but maybe not so much for real young kids. If you are in to outdoors things, grab some chicken necks and clab lines and hit up the OC Municipal pier for some crabbing. And definitetly, definitely find a good seafood restaurant and get crabcakes... or better yet, whole crabs.. at least once before you leave!

Post back if youre curios about anything else!

My wife likes the beach. I'm not a beach person, but I did go to Myrtle Beach for spring break back when I was in High School.

I like to be able to leave my hotel and walk to attractions in the evening without having to drive places. Nothing like walking at night in a resort area in the cool summer air.

Kids are ages 14/15.

Need a decent hotel overlooking the ocean. I know it won't be cheap, but I don't have many family vacations left with the kids before they're grown and want to stay someplace nice.

if you can get away without the kids for a while, go to faggers island, its a great bar/club, outside couches, a gazebo out on the water, inside is usally a live band, outside is a dj

The idea of going to a club called faggers island, just doesn't appeal to me. LOL.

I have been there plenty of times and haven't been there in about 5 years. There is a lot to do but a lot depends when you stay. Personally the place is over crowded in the summer. You cant get any parking so you can ride the bus. I rode the bus only for it to take 4 hours to get back because all the busses were full. It's seems the place is more party oriented any more. I veer more toward Virginia Beach/Sandbridge or some of the less popular one because there is less crowd to deal with. I think you cant go wrong with the Outer Banks at all. Don't get me wrong I have had a lot of fun in OC but I have found different perks at different beaches. Getting away is great reguardless of where you go

I'm guessing you've already been to Gatlinburg/Ashville areas....lots of family stuff/family hiking trais/swimming in clear creeks/scenic drives/BBQ/car-truck shows/shopping outlets for Vanessa/cave tours/good deals om mountain cabins/bears/lakes for canoeing & fishing/go-cart tracks!

Just about any beach in southern Delaware could be called that. Around here we just call it "Rehomo"

I've got nothing against gay people but seeing 40 year old men in WAY better physical shape than me walking down the beach holding hands still makes me a little uncomfortable.

I've been to Ocean City Maryland before when I was young, it wasn't bad but I'm not a huge fan of it.

If you're driving all the way from Ohio anyway, check out Ocean City NJ. I promise it's nothing like the "Jersey shore" TV show.

It's a little island in southern NJ, maybe 10 miles from Atlantic City.

All the drunks and sleasy types stay out of town because alcoholic sale is prohibited on the island. You can still bring your own in, in fact there's a huge liquor store just before the bridge on the way into town. But since there's no bars, all the people you don't want your family around tend to go Atlantic City instead.

It's got the small town lifestyle, you can walk just about anywhere you want, mom and pop places are abundant. The boardwalk is fantastic, full of arcades, amusement parks, fantastic restaurants and the best candy shops you've ever seen.

You just can't beat it for a relaxing vacation.

My family has been going there for Summer vacation for the last fifteen years.

We finally bought our own place down there about eight years ago. Couldn't be happier :icon_thumby:
