I am curious to see all the different decal packages that were available for the 2nd generation Rangers. I can't seem to find this information though. I've seem some wild 90s era decal packages on some Rangers on Facebook marketplace. Thanks!

I don't know of an "archive", but it would be great if there was one. Such as, a complete listing of designs, what colors were available, with example period photos.

The only info sources that I'm aware of, are the sales brochures which aren't anywhere near complete on stripe packages.

I *think* that the Ford parts books would be a good reference source for available tape stripes, but I haven't really looked at the little bit of those that I have in my Ranger Porn Collection.

However, the old body shop estimating guide books from the era are true goldmines for info.

The body shop estimating guide pages that I do have show the following:
1983 to 1988 - 22 styles of factory tape stripes.
1989 to 1992 - 18 styles of factory tape stripes.
1994 to 1997 - 17 styles of factory tape stripes.

So, first three Ranger generations, 57 "styles" (designs), with variations for the different boxes and cabs. And, each in several different available colors. The Bronco II, and the Explorer also had their own styles. So, bottom line, a database, or an archive, on just the factory stuff would be quite the task (a million monkeys with a million typewriters comes to mind).

And there were also a lot of aftermarket tape stripes, which only further muddies the water.

I apologize for the crappy pics, but attached are the pages I have. If you zoom in you can make out most of
the details, which include Ford part numbers (body shops had to order parts, right?).

Can't resist a "food for thought": Someone with the experience, and equipment, in making large adhesive vinyl decals, and having an "understanding" in place with Ford, could probably have themselves a nice, lucrative niche business, repro'ing stripe decals; especially if it included a good comprehensive guide as to what was originally available, and for the ease of ordering of the repro decals.

Two part question,

1. What publication did this info/ pics originate from so I can try to locate it for myself?

2. Would it be possible to ask you to make a photo copy of the 93 - 97 pages and send me either a PDF or hard copy (I'm happy to offer monetary compensation for such work)?

1. Body shops used to have paper "collision repair estimate guides" back in the day (they were like phone books, in size and form). Years ago, I got my copies of the Ranger, Bronco II and Explorer sections to cover the years of the trucks that I run, off of eBay. I'm not sure if these can still be found, but eBay is a good starting point, to look. Search eBay Motors with terms like "1994 Ford Ranger collision repair estimate guide", and such.

2. I'll be glad to share copies with you, but I'll need a few days to scan them. You're mainly interested in the factory graphics packages?

Well I'm interested in what ever your book shows for the 96 year model or that generation as a whole. My current project will getting some major body work (new sheet metal and such), a new themed paint scheme and maybe even some airbrush or vinyl decal to finish the theme. To have some factory stripes mixed into the look would very much scratch a nostalgic itch for me. I have a very good friend that has the ability to print vinyl decals in the length the truck calls for and I would be an idiot to not use that resource lol.

PS take all the time you need. It's not a rush, but seeing the info did get me super excited about new ideas for the finish.

Got it. I'll shoot you a PM when I've got some scans.

They are in the parts book too, I snagged them on CD on ebay for like $20 a couple years ago.
