anybody know about escorts?

Did you get that Escort running?

oh hell yeah, i forgot about this thread haha. i got 2 color matched grilles for it. one i got on ebay for about $13 shipped, the other i got at the j/y with my other parts. looks like my last link didnt work, apparently i had the wrong info on my clipboard when i pasted. HERE are some pics, and an update on the second page. since that update, ive had it all apart again and gotten things even better. i have a grille in it now and it looks so much better. i've been driving it to work, it's so much fun to drive. i'd like to lower it eventually, but it needs some other things that are more important first. i still need to fix the a/c, the front brakes need a little work, theres a clunk somewhere i cant find, i think its tie rods or tre's, maybe even a loose rack, im not sure.

How do you get the headlight out on one of these? I can't find a screw, bolt, or even a clip anywheres on it that would let it pop out. I need to take one off to try something on it before I do the Ranger. I'm considering just ripping it out since its a wreck anyway. But I might someday have the frame fixed and put her back on the road, so I would rather cause as little damage as possible.

take out the corner light (2 phillips head screws) and the grille (one phillips head screw and a few clips) then theres 5 bolts that come out. 2 on each end and one in the middle at the top. i think they are 10mm's

you gonna try to clean them and clear them up a little? i just use a little polishing compound. it does a great job with little effort.

I heard that a little sanding with some super fine sand paper & polishing with toothpaste works, so that's what I'm going to try. The only polishing compound I can find comes in a quart bottle for about 40 dollars.. I only need about a tablespoon of it and have a low budget.

No job and I just dropped my last 30 on another rear bumper. That's not a good mix. If I don't find a job soon.. looks like its gonna be the bus for me to school this year too. Going to cost me 25 a week to drive to school. I could make twice that in a day at the quarry, but that work isn't for me. I'll do what I have to to get along though..

how fine is 'super fine'? you should be able to get polishing compound at any meijers or wal-mart, autozone, whatever. ive heard brasso works too. toothpaste is somewhat abrasive but id imagine it will take a little work....

My local autozone has two different brands of "plastic polish" that both work fine. You can also use Mother's aluminum polish. If it doesn't work on the first try then wet sand them with some 2000 grit sandpaper and go over them again with the polish.

Start off with 500, move to 1000, then 1500, then 2000 if your still not happy.
