I replaced my factory vacuum pulse locking hubs (1998 Ranger 4X4) a little over a year ago, with the AVM manual hubs. The other day I noticed that the outside part of the hub housing (the part that contains the selector) was gone. It apparently broke off from the rest of the hub. It strikes me as terribly odd because I haven't been particularly rough on the truck.
Has anyone else ever experienced this?
The hubs were locked in before this broke, but I haven't tried to engage the transfer case since I have noticed this. What is left of the hub appears to be locked in. Should I expect a disaster if I need to engage the transfer case?
I figured these would last quite a lot longer than they did. The other side seems to be fine and solid.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks.
