i was just wondering if there is any reason to go against what ford recomends? which is 5w30 motor oil.

Nope, none that I can think of. I would just stick with the 5w-30.

A lot of attention is paid to automobile engines during start-up due to emissions being high at this point. The lower viscosity of the oil when cold helps the engine turn easier helping with emissions. If you live in a cold climate, I would stick with the 5-30. In warmer/hot climates 10-30 would be fine. As far as actually hurting the engine, no.:)shady

well the coldest it gets here is about 28* and the hottest is 110*

i currently have 10w-30 but i was wondering if it would be better to go to 5w-30

10-30 is fine, i run 20-50 in all my fords just because it keeps the valves quieter. but for a newer ford, id say 10-30 is fine

You could use 10w-30 but there isn't really any point. 5w-30 works well in all temperatures.

i use dino 5w30 valvoline or castrol gtx together with a motorcraft filter. never an issue and the oil stays clean for quite a while after each change.

i use royal purple:) i love the stuff and ,despite the price, is an awesome product. I HAVE been using full synthetics since i got the truck and its been nothing but smooth sailing. *knock on wood*

Been using full synthetic 5w40 all winter in our ol' girl. Guy at Advance pointed it out when I was looking over mobil-1. Truck seems to enjoy it. Hitting it with 10w40 mobil-1 when the temps get steady above 45 for the late spring/summer months. (great sale...5 qts of full syn, and a mobil-1 filter for 29 bucks)

thank god for walmart. just picked up a 5quart jug of pennzoil high mileage 5w-30 for $13.50. im going to see if it makes a difference vs. castrol gtx high mileage 10w-30 thats in the truck now.

I ran GTX 5-30 for 250,000 miles. For the last 16,000, I've run Royal Purple and have gained better mileage overall, and my emissions test scored lower this year.

It's worth the price IMO.
