A legend to the old man, a hero to the child...
I got tree roots blocking my main line from the house to the rosd....again.

Is there any good alternative to power auging them out?

1st time i rented an auger and did it myself. But after almost getting the auger stuck in the pipe i said never again.

2nd time i paid mr rooter 317 bucks to do it and id like to avoid that also.

Luckly the shitter and sinks are fine, but thr washer and tub are draining super slow. Tried draino hopin to get lucky to no avail.

I seen a few chemical treatments that promise to dissolve roots, do these work?

Pipe is clay/terracota (or whatever they used back in the day, its not PVC).

Slices roots under ground and stops the growth. We use it at the golf course for roots trying to grow under cartpaths. Maybe you could rent one.
By the way Jim, I love being able to insert and resize photos so easily now. Just freaking awesome.

Or if your renting machines you could get a mini excavator and replace that clay pipe with PVC. It ain't heart surgery, couple Fernco fittings to make your beginning and end point connections, don't forget to clean and glue the snot out of your fittings. And 1/4" drop per foot of pipe run

Cut down the tree. Apply Roundup with a brush, at full strength, to the stump within minutes of cutting it down.

Or as a previous poster suggested, rip deep enough to sever the root and hope it doesn't come back stronger than ever in a few years. Many farmers have rippers that should run deep enough to be able to sever that root, depending on it's size, so you might be able to find someone you know to help you with it and avoid renting a machine.

The tree doing it is MASSIVE. And centered between mine and the neighbors house. Cutting it down isnt really a viable option.

At some point i plan on ripping the pipe out and replaceing it, but im not sure on the legality here in town of me doin it myself.

I ended up calling a plumber. Found one to do it for 135. It was gonna cost me 60 tondo it myself.

Leave it to the professional

I generally let trees have one chance to do the right thing on my properties, then they get murdered if they keep up their shite.

Start dumping potasium nitrate and copper sulfate down your drains every day. The fumes may kill you and the tree may die but the roots will dissolve.

Funny side note, we pulled the clay crap pipe out of my buddies yard which was allegedly clogged with roots. When we finally got it up and inspected it there were some roots but the main clog was hundreds of tampons. :shok:
