I will more than likely be buying this truck this weekend, I had a 94 ranger a couple of years ago and have been missing it ever since I sold it. I just figured I'd get a few guys that are more familiar with Ranger's than I to take a look at it and see if anything jumped out.

Also, I have verified that it is indeed a 2002 fx4. The owner just had the "level II" decals put on the fender for looks I suppose.

nothin we can see that could help you other than it looks clean and has alot of work into it, now it's up to you to go test drive it....

Definitely a nice looking truck and well cared for.

Why is he wanting to sell it? he lists that he is open to trades as long as they are equal in value...which suggests to me that he does not need the cash but is looking to replace it. that kind of flags that it might have an issue that could be expensive to fix.

Definitely test drive it, ask for the service records and go talk to the people who work on it, plus it wouldn't hurt to have your own mechanic look at it. look for the timing chain rattle that is somewhat common for the 4.0 SOHC engine.

this came to mind first, definitely give it a good listen when you test drive it. I have a co worker who has both a 4.0 SOHC explorer, and a FX4 Level 2 Ranger with the 4.0sohc, the explorer needed an engine at 180k due to the chains, his Ranger has 250k on it without any chain issues, so obviously its a hit and miss problem.

Very nice truck. The only other thing I would ask for is underbody shots. Or better yet go check it out in person. Look for leaks, etc. Check for rust underneath, not sure if your in the rust belt or not. If I was looking to purchase it I'd probably jump on that, the only dislike being its an Auto, but driving 5 speed or auto is just based on a personal preference for everyone.
