I just bought a new to me 86 ranger manual with the 2.9 and I’m having the problem of every time after I warm it up and shut it down (I can drive fine the first time I start it up) but if I shut it down and restart it then it will have a miss around 2000 rpms and sometimes even at idle if its having a really bad day. I replaced the ign. module, a new Coil I also got new plugs cap rotor and wires but now I have the feeling it is a fuel problem I replaced the high pressure fuel pump and now I’m stumped any help would be great.

First thing I would check is FPR when it's hot (if it's running bad, shut it down and check the vacuum line for raw fuel), if that seems alright - but a fuel pressure test would be best, my next guess would be engine coolant temp sensor. Best bet would be to pull codes from the computer for clues on what the problem might be. I really couldn't tell you what the exact problem is given the information that I know.

I have a full parts ranger that ran even after my brother flipped it ill replace the FPR tomorrow and see were that gets me thanks for the help

check it out first, fuel pressure test is best, but if you have raw fuel in the fpr vacuum line, it's definitely bad. Just listing off some suggestions, check around before you spend the $$ or replacing a part that is good.

I'm just going to rob it off the other ranger no cost to me and I will have my dad pick up a fuel pressure tester from the shop at work.

Im still having this problem ive run out of ideas ive replaced both fuel pumps my FPR my map sensor and im stumped any help would be greatly appreciated
