My credo
Sometimes you eat the bear, sometimes the bear eats you.
Is there anything I can do to get more speed or HP out of my 4.0 OHV. Are there any mod chips etc?

No, not unless you want to spend some $$$

Morana Racing has some upgrades for the 4.0l OHV, seen here: http://www.moranav6racing.com/category.html?CategoryID=32
Roller Rockers and Stroking are options, and of course Super Charging

When Rangers got Fuel injection in 1986 they all came with Cold Air Intakes from then on, just in case you were wondering
And no Car Maker Detunes their engines, "chips" are/were a less than honest add-on

Keep the oil changed and the spark system in good working order, and the fuel system clean for best performance
Also for the 1990-1994 4.0l pull out the computer, and change its 3 capacitors, they will fail after 20+ years and will cause running issues
The 3 Blue Capacitors seen in this picture: http://www.auto-diagnostics.info/ford_eec_iv

Thanks for the info...I wonder if it's an easy job to change the capacitors. I could buy a new ECU instead. Probably less headaches.

Very easy to do if you or a friend can solder, under $5 for parts, even if you have to buy 5 of each of the replacement capacitors
A "solder sucker" is a good tool to have for this, to clean out the holes

Each capacitor has 2 numbers on it, like 16uF and 30v
You need to replace it with the same uF, but the V can be higher, so 16uF and 100v is fine, but V can't be lower

Each also has a "-" side, will have a stripe on that side, take pictures before removing them so you know which way they go back in and what "value" goes were

Also check with Radio/TV repair shops, they are getting few and far between, lol, but find out how much they would change to replace these 3 capacitors

Check my current thread 2.9L w/ MegaSquirt to 4.0L w/ Ecumaster Black and a Turbo build
maybe it will inspire you. Neither cheap nor a quick way to get more power, but theory and other builds confirm you can get 2-3x more power than stock with stock crank, con rods and pistons. Unfortunately I need to start with a full engine rebuild, and then seek for the horses :D

Well I do like the firing order of the V6. Only some newest V8 with flat crank can have such a nice firing order (left-right-left-right…) and these are not 5.0L Ford V8 ;)
The other thing is - a swap to V8 would also mean the whole transmission swap, or I am wrong? 4.0L is certainly not a race engine, but it can be fast.

I am curious abut the intake pictured in the above pictures? Is it modified from a stock. I like the low profile, compared to the factory one on my 4.0 OHV V6.

It may be an answer for a replacement for my stock one.

I expect it's a custom modified intake.
I will be also fabricating mine, but I was thinking more like that one here (borrowed photos from FB):

That's a mod by a fellow ford capri forum user in Poland (search Facebook for Mad Mods Garage).

Looks quite impressive (values at crank estimated) :D
