My son's B3000 needs some BASS. He wants to keep both jump seats, perhaps sacrifice just a little knee space in the middle. He's thinking Infinity Basslink powered sub. I'm thinking separate Kappa 5 amp under the passenger or driver seat and a single 10" or 12" in a small box right in the middle.

I can't seem to find anything to fit the bill, so if you have any recommendations, I'm grateful. I did see an MTX Thunderform single, but it was an older photo and nothing was on their website. Their boxes are ridiculously expensive too. I'd rather spend the dough on higher-quality components than the box itself.

Anyone?

you can always make the box yourself pretty easily

Well, that's what I keep telling my son. He recently graduated from vocational high school, trained as a carpenter, so I don't know what the problem is. All I do know is that when I drive his truck the sound is sharp, but there's just no bass. What a huge difference when I get back into my old ('02) BMW 530i with it's stock DSP sound system!

I'm willing to spring for the amp if he finds/makes a box and the sub. I am recommending staying with Infinity Kappa all the way at this point, but a JL Audio or Rockford Fosgate might be OK.

tell him to find the sub he wants look up the specs for CF, mounting dia, and depth, and start working the numbers, use 3/4 mdf sealed box, have him make it, and id shy away from mxt or FR but JL are really nice and eclipse are good two, there the poor mans JL but both of them arnt very power hungry, considering your footing the bill for the amp. and if his box is gonna be a lil to small in the CF its ok just make sure the amp has a lil more RMS power then it needs,

Nice job. I'll show that setup of yours to my son and see if it gives him the impetus to make his own. Hell, he should if he's going to get a free Kappa 5 amp out of the deal!

That's not my set up, i build all my own boxes, show these to your son, but tell him to shop around cause you can get them cheaper, almost anything there will be better then a powered sub.

My son & I have been all over the Crutchfield site, as that's where we bought the head unit. (His speakers came from and Ebay seller, I paid half.) I do like the Kappa 5 amp because it's a nice match for the 2 ohm Kappa speakers in the 4 corners and stills runs 350w RMS mono for a sub. Choosing the subwoofer itself is a little more subjective, because the sound one gets from any choice really does depend so much on it's box shape, volume, porting and volume.

Dude, Ken N, u gotta b the most badass dad ever, lol, my dad would never pay a single cent for any type of car stereo's or subs, lol, he thinks its a waste of money. Im tryin to put a 12 inch Pioneer Premier 2 ohm sub and a Boss 600.2 (1200 watts max power) 2 ohm amp, but i don't have the wires or the box yet. the subs rated for a .85 cubic feet to 1.75 cubic feet box, but idk if i should get the smallest box i can, or go for the largest box i can, keep in mind ive got an extended cab Ranger, so there aint very much room back there, what do ya'll think?

Thanks, but I'm no hero. It's my son (the 2nd of two) who's done much to deserve my favor. No drinking, no drugging, no bad behavior that I know of, and I would know it if it was going on because I know all his friends and his GF's family. He keeps good company. He holds a job, does well in it so much that his supervisors and coworkers all tell me "Oh, I LOVE Brian! He works so hard."

His truck is also and extended cab (with just the 2 regular doors) and he seems to want to keep legroom for both rear jumpseats. I'm thinking it's going to be OK to lose one and do a nice install, because while the Kappa speakers sound good, the system REALLY needs some lower range to have full-range sound. He is not a "look at me with my booming bass" kind of guy, but he's driven my '02 BMW for a time (after he killed the auto trans on his '88 Bimmer) and knows what decent low-end frequencies should sound like.

Since he's going to be wiping my ass in a few years, I'll treat him well now. ;)

when you get old were putting you in a home....lol thats what it tell my dad, jking of course.

fighting the battle of leg room, he will have to give up something. best iv seen is put it int he middle, and make people sit there at a 45 kinda crushed, or get ride of a seat and have lots of room for one,

redneck

the smaller you make your box the puncher it will be the bigger you make it the more basser it will be. so its up to what sound your looking for.

Lol. Thats good, I actually moving out of my house in June 2009, I graduate high school, and im gonna immediately go to work in my uncle's construction buisness, who knows, i may go to a lower class university one day, but i don't got the brains for college.

Thanks 4x4 fun. Thanks for the help bro. I think im gonna go for a little bit of both (if there is such a thing), im gonna try and either find a box that is "1.25 cubic feet", or im gonna make one myself, my buddy has sum leftovr materials that he'll let me use. Oh yea, another question, Whats the difference between ported boxes and enclosed boxes? Do u know if one sounds better than the other, does one hit harder than the other? etc.

Here is the one I built for mine back a couple if years. It had 2 10 inch subs and was ported on the bottom. I was not able to use the driverside jump seat however.
