Howdy Ranger people..I've been lurking for a while (you guys seem to have all the answers to my lame Aerostar questions), figured now that I own one of these little critters I should join and (hopefully) contribute..

Just acquired a '93 XLT regular cab shortbed, 2.3 5-speed..it's not a bad little rig, I was pleasantly surprised to find..cannot tell a lie, it was purchased as a temp ride while my Aerostar is going thru an engine swap (LOONG story)..beginning to think I'll keep the little Ranger around and 5.0 it when the van's finished, though.
:3gears:

Howdy and welcome to TRS. We LOVE stories. Also, you can't be the noob. I'm the noob. LOL

Thanks for the welcome!
The long story on the Aerostar isn't really all that long..my '96 Aerostar's 3.0 took a dump last summer. While getting cut & abraded during the engine removal, I decided if I was gonna get beat up this badly by my vehicle, I wanted more than just "more of the same" from the finished project..
I started with the intention of finding a donor Ranger with a v-6 5-speed combo to swap in..unfortunately, (at least in my area) they were all either beaten to death or apparently made of gold..
I decided to widen my search parameters a bit, and (completely by accident) found an '86 Toyota pickup with a freshly rebuilt 22-r (carb'd 2400-ish cc four cylinder) and manual trans..thing was right down the block and the owner all but paid me to haul it away..
I've got some history with Toyota (worked at Toy dealers for seventeen years, bracket raced a 22-r powered pickup in the late eighties) so this made more sense to me than it probably does to most folks..
:icon_rofl:
Anyway, yeah..my Errorstar is getting a mildly built (cam, carb, header) Toyota four cylinder/manual tranny combo swapped in to replace the anemic three point slow/slushbox that it came with..and in the meantime I needed a cheap ride to use for a daily driver..enter the '93 Ranger w/2.3..
Clear as mud, no?

Makes perfect sense to me. That Aerostar definitely sounds interesting. I thought the name 22-R referred to it size? 2200?

Naw, it's 2366 cc, actually. The name comes from it being the 22nd variant of the "R" engine family.
Here's a pic of my old Toy at IRP in '89. It ended up running mid-14's with the 22-r in pretty much the same tune as the one I'll be dumping in the Errorstar..no digital pics other than this scanned one..the blue Plymouth Scamp came along a few years later, the red Zoom-Mobile was actually my first ride.
:)
