A starter circuit switch or fuel pump switch is probably the way I’m going to go. Thanks for the info on the ECU connections.

You would think they would go for all the Ferraris in my neighborhood, but they just love stealing these old 4x4 trucks for a joy ride.

Disabling the starter motor is OK, but.............starter motors make noise, and a thief is hoping to start engine and GO, so if starter works but engine doesn't start right up they may run off
If starter doesn't work then they have more quiet time to investigate why it may not work, i.e. look for hidden buttons or switches

Another thing that can work is a timer circuit on the fuel pump, so unless reset the fuel pump works for say 3-5minutes and then shuts off
So thief is stuck out on a road visible to all, with a non-running vehicle

That’s strange... there was a big crash on 195 the other day, the initial investigation has found that a car ran over a banana peel and lost control.

Back to the point... i have an opinion on starter disable switch vs fuel pump.

I agree with @RonD About the truck cranking and not starting when using a fuel pump cutoff switch. BUT what always concerns me about doing a fuel pump switch is that if the switch fails or gets bumped your truck will stop running. That could be dangerous doing 70 down the highway. A starter cutoff on the other hand wont do anything while driving it just wont restart next time you stop....

Just my 2 cents.

That's way to obvious.... Dirtman, you could wire a secondary switch that activates the first switch as a secondary fail safe so it wouldn't accidentally get bumped off, not like switches turn off on their own but who knows with kids these days... Switches and relays are like hieroglyphics to millennials lol.

Another fun one to do would be have a switch wired up that is always ON when the vehicle is off and have it wired to a relay with the ignition as the trigger and then to a loud horn so that if said thief doesn't turn the switch off as soon as they go to turn the key it would start blaring a loud ass horn. That would scare the crap out of them especially if it was an air horn pointed inside the cab. Oh that would be great.

You gotta think... who's stealing an old ranger? Not car theifs trying to chop or sell them, its joy riders or people looking for a ride to commit another crime. Any delay will cause them to just move on. Most of them won't even bother if the door is locked. They will not dig through and try to find a cutoff switch of any kind, its just not rational. Get in, break the ignition, no start, run away.

I dont lock my doors because id rather a theif steal my change then break my window, but I have PATS so no crackhead is getting away with my truck. A on/off switch is just as good against said crackhead. No gone in sixty seconds crap is happening to a 93 ford ranger... its crackheads...

Hell, just take the fuel pump relay inside with you every night... think they can trace that issue down? Theifs gonna check the under hood relay diagram? I could pull the fuel pump relay out of a truck of half these guys on here who are ASE certified and it would still take them 20 minutes to trace the issue in an actual shop.
