hey guys, after reading all the info in this thread i went to my friends shop and made a restricter plate by tracing the solenoid outline and bolt holes with a sharpy on a thin sheet of aluminum .. it covers the holes of the solenoid only letting it breath through much smaller holes i made wit a drill bit(dont remember the size but start amall u can always go bigger) bolted it back on the truck and it worked bitchen first try!!! i was so pumped, its way smoother to shift and u can shift way faster because the rpm drops much quicker.. it also sounds pretty sick jus revving it cause the rpms dont hang all day.. total time it took to take the solenoid off my truck, figure out wat i needed to do, make the plate and drive down the roar with a grin ear to ear was about 30 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!! u will be stoked its like a whole different truck. let me know if u need any more info i know that was a lil scattered

More Info on RPM hanging

I have a 2007 B2300 that has the annoying hanging RPM problem.

My B2300 is a standard trans.

When you refer to the solenoid , what solenoid are you referring to?

Thanx

RSW

its jus behind the throttle plate on the left side of the intake manifold.. its aluminum colored and had a removeable wire plugged into it

its called an idle air control solenoid.

the reason the RPMs are designed to reduce slowly is to aid in the meshing of the dog teeth in a manual transmission. what you did will actually impede speed shifting...but whatever floats your boat. i have found the hanging idle between gears on newer fords to be annoying myself as well.

sorry for confusion i didnt mean "shift faster" as in speed shifting, just in the sence of norman driving.. in stock form u have to let off the gas before pushing in the clutch and then wait a few seconds to achieve a smooth shift without slipping each time.

You can do the same thing with a piece of gasket paper and a hole punch. I like your idea of a plate so you can drill different sized holes, but gasket material works just as well (for those who don't cut/shape metal).

I "use" that hanging idle to upshift without the clutch. Little bit of pressure on the shifter and it snicks right into the next gear when the rpms match up. If you weren't paying attention, you'd think you were in an automatic trans truck.

yea there is another dude on here who made a blank gasket out of shop vac filter material.. sounds like a pretty rad idea. i jus need to get some of that material
