so need to get rid of my A4LD. Keep blowin my front seal. But I'm lookin for some advice on what trans to go with, pretty much what will swap in easiest and have greater reliability than my A4LD. I want an M5OD but this I'm kinda strapped for cash and there's quite a few parts I'd have to procure for a MT swap. So I'm thinkin just another AT. Which sucks but oh well. Just need but truck to work. So any advice???
Btw trucks a 2.9, 4x4

That's what I was afraid of. I've been doing a but of research on them and that's what I came up with, it's only the a4ld. But wouldnt a 90s or newer 4.0 a4ld hold up better than others? And if so, are there any identifiying markers. As in trans tag codes.
Also I read through the tech library on trans swaps, the whole c4/c5 thing is confusing.

I'm not sure about how to ID one but I can say that I beleive the valve body would have to be swapped between your 86 trans and the new 4.0 AL4D.

you can use your old trans, VB and up grade it....

get all of the internals from a 4r55e and swap it over.

doing so will get you full roller bearings, more clutches, lighter weight = longer lasting, and more holding power.
