Ive searched and searched and cant find anything (i suck at searching)

Straight up question, how do you wire it..lol its for a 03 4.0L

can you use a wiring kit like torqueflow from autozone? or do you have to wire it yourself, i just dont get it..any help, thanks

any wiring diagram??

Ive got the 16" 2 speed fan, i just suck at wiring. I have swapped 2 dozen motors, rebuilt trannies, built bikes from the bottem end up, you name it. i Just couldnt re-wire a flashlight if my life depended on it

The taurus fan pulls a lot of amperage. You'll want to do a web search for others who have done this mod....unless you like fires and killing electrical items in your truck.

200 amp alt fixes that :headbang:
No it doesn't. You wiring has to be rated for greater than the continous amp draw on the fan. You can NOT put wiring on the fan/controller for lower than continous amp draw or you will cause a fire.

I recommend the SPAL FAN-PWM controller from www.spalusa.com . That is the controller I used to run the Taurus fan on my old Ranger. It worked great.

You will also need a 40A/50A SPST relay to do the wiring; SPAL tech support has a wiring diagram that they can send you for the wiring of a high amperage fan to their controller.

If you use the high speed side of the Taurus fan, then you will need the relay because of the high amp draw (about 80A on start up and roughly 33A during continous run). If you use the low speed side of the fan (which will cool a Ranger fine), then you wont need the relay or any special wiring because it only draws about 28A on start up; you can then get any controller at AutoZone or any other place that sells electric fans (I would still go with the SPAL controller).

The high side cools a 4.0 more than perfect. The 4500CFM will actually drop the temp gauge. My fan never came on unless I was setting in traffic in August. I could physically watch my temp gauge drop whenever the fan came on. You could stick your hand in front of the radiator and feel the suction of the fan; with the hood up, it would blow papers off the window opening.

all the 200 amp alt does is shorten the time it takes to light the fire.

its the switching load on to off, if you use crap for that you will burn stuff up..

run the small wire on a single 30 amp relay for low, and run the big one thru two 30's or buy an 80 amp for high. that will keep the fire potential out of scary.

the high isnt really needed for most use, so have the relays run off a 200 deg t stat for that and the low power relay run off a 180-190 t stat.

basically the best way to do it is to just hook the low to a t stat and the high to a switch, cause the t stat switches are costly. 20-40 bux each, then the relay costs.

damn jones you nailed that...i should have waited...

on high, a regular shoprag sticks to my grille and gets sucked thru to the radiator depending how positioned....

currently i have a dodge unit, but it cools just fine on low. and that is with mild v8 power. for my diesel i am using an intech unit, but have considered another doge unit for that as well.

You don't need an 80A relay for the high side. A single 40A/50A SPST relay is all that is needed to run the high side. I ran mine that way for over a year. SPAL has actually done research on the Taurus fan and the 40A/50A relay was their recommendation.

SPAL FAN-PWM controller will control both speeds of the fan. They also have a wiring diagram for that wiring too they will give you.

Geeze, trying to post when the master is:nono::icon_cheers::headbang::icon_twisted:

The Dodge Intrepid fans are sweet little boogers also.

I am debating when I swap in a 4.0 radiator into the BII if I want to put in a Taurus fan like I had in the Ranger. If there is enough room between the fan and water pump pulley.

i usually have to make room. it is pretty tight, but a b2 does not flex as bad as an ext cab so it is quite possible you can make the fat bastard taurus fan work on a b2 just removing the clutch fan. the dodge had a lil more room depending how positioned so i used it in factory applications before. there are alot of different models of dodge fan though. the hyundai fans i used were nice too but lacked surface area when off roading and mud was caked bad. which was one reason i went to e fans to begin with. my flex fan ate fuel and tore belts a new ass constantly. my m7 fan just didnt have the clearance for technical obstacles....would destroy the radiator when it was twist up time. the taurus fan cools better then anything else you can use for a 302 in the rbv application in my experience so far...best 10 bux i could spend at the junkyard for cooling..

with the v8's for off road applications i always have to relocate the radiator to use the big e fan or clutch fans. if you dont, then the first time a mount lets go your screwed. thats why i always suggest chains to back up mounts.

i have seen the tranny mount get tweaked and cause the engine to tear into the radiator. so i like some distance when possible.

I could put the Taurus fan on now with the BII radiator on it since it is SO thin. I am worried about clearance with the 4.0 radiator because it is more than 2x the thickness of the BII radiator.

I can get the Taurus fans all day long for around $20 at my local yard. I will pick one up and see if it fits.

well the last thing i want is a fire so thats why i was asking. Appreciate the help and ill see what i can dig up. As far as the wiring being rated at a higher continuous amp draw on the fan, can that be specified as far as gaging. Like a 12 gage wire...ah, never mind, im just electrically challenged, theres no hope. :buttkick: Ill talk to an electrician friend of mine and see what he sais cause im still lost. I just thought it would be a bit easier, its just a fan..a thermostat and a few wires...lol, i was wrong. Thanks again

12AWG wire will be fine.
