ok here are some of my figures based on the 4.0 Ranger and the numbers from their site:

cost of ethos per 10 gallons is $1.69. that means roughly $3.30 per fillup for the Ranger based on a 19.5 gallon tank and running it dry between fillups (most of us do not run the full 19.5 gallons out but it makes calculations a bit simpler)

gas where I live is currently $3.22/gallon. this means $62.79 per fillup from empty. add the $3.30 to that for the Ethos you have $66.09.

now lets say I drive 12,000 miles per year or 1000 miles per month. (I drive much more than that, but this will make calculations easier) My average gas mileage for my 97 4.0 is roughly 17mpg. so at 1000 miles per month, I am filling up 3.017 times per month. this will cost me $189.41 without the Ethos treatment. with Ethos, $199.35.

the site claims 7% to 19% savings in gas. well here are the numbers for that too. If I saved 7 percent in gas savings I will pay $176.15. If I save 19% I will pay $153.42. These figures do not have the $3.30 per tank ethos cost in them.

So now that we have that figured out, our fillups per month for the 7% savings will drop to $176.15 which is 2.805 fillups and then take that times $3.30per fillup of Ethos treatment which is $9.25 for a total of $185.40 you are saving about $4.00 per month.

For the 19%, the cost of monthly fillup will be $153.42 which is 2.443 fillups and that tiime sthe $3.30 per fillup of Ethos which is $8.05 for a total of $161.47 for a $27.00 per month savings.

There it is, you can tweak the numbers for your use. I have put it all in an excell file if you want to change the numbers and figure it for your driving. hit me up/ w a pm if you want the file.

I am guessing that most of us will see the 7% end of this if this stuff really works. the $4.00 a month price reduction is not that significant. and really when you think about it, neither is the $27.00/month reduction.

This is where I stopped reading.

Basic, Premium, Plus... etc... These are just different grades of molecule spacing.

And more is not necessarily better.

But the real scam giveaway is "all fuel mileage improvers are scams, except ours."

That bit about making "space" between the gasoline molecules was worse than laughable. Were that true, it would decrease the energy density in the fuel. Which means less power is available for a given set of conditions.

And of course if you put it in a full fuel tank, you would back the fuel up out the charcoal cannister. If it weren't just a bald-faced lie.

The statements about dramatically improved air quality in Los Angeles is true, but it's not the reformulated gasoline (which used MTBE -- an ether, not an ester) that did it. It was the advent of computer-controlled fuel injection and several other unrelated emissions devices (especially catalytic converters). Modern engines emit less than 1% of the garbage their (even freshly rebuilt) cousins did from 35 years ago, when using the same fuel.

Wow, I learned something, I remember when I was little I used to always hear filler up with ester? Then there was always the joke about leaving her (Ester) alone. I always thought that the catalytic converter was the only thing that changed the carbons down to reduce smog\pollution.

Oh, and not to mention, there is another way to make "more space" between fuel molecules. It's called a "lean mixture." It does indeed remove quite a bit of the unburned hydrocarbons from the exhaust; this was the primary means of emissions control in the early 70s, before catalytic converters.

However, it does two bad things:

1. It dramatically increases NOx emissions. That's conventional smog. And it causes "acid rain."

2. It causes detonation.

These are direct results of getting more air in contact with the gasoline. Introducing it by another mechanism won't work. In fact, the oxygen sensor circuits will compensate any difference away by enrichening the mixture until there is a specific excess of oxygen in the exhaust.

Read a story years ago bout a guy who bought ALL the gas savings gadgets on the market, installed them in and on his car and drove for a month before writing a report for a magazine.
He reported, "All the fuel saving products he had tested totaled 125% increase in fuel mileage and worked just as advertised, wonderfully". The only thing that bothered him was having to stop at gas stations all the time to have his fuel tank drained...
