I bought a 15" E Fan off the internet which came with a wiring kit. I've installed it and it runs fine: all except for the part shown in the photo. It did not come with a sensor that fit into the screw base.

The photo shows another sensor for a japanese car which I bought at the parts store. We did not know if this will relay the right signal back to the computer. My understanding is that one wire goes to ground white the other goes to the computer.

Right now the air conditioner isn't working. I am assuming that without receiving a signal from this sending wire, the computer thinks the engine is overheating, turns air conditioner off and the CHECK ENGINE light on.

Do you think this part will work? Or do you know the right one? Or do you have a better idea?

I know nothing about cars with computers. But I am here to learn.

I've received a lot of help from the Forum before. Thanks!

I think you need to separate A/C function with cooling fan function.

That switch you want to add for the fan should be a single wire thermo switch designed to whatever temp you want the fan to come on. When it meets that temp... the switch closes to ground and energizes the fan relay. That fan switch will have nothing to do with A/C function.

I should back up a bit and say...

The fan doesn't have anything to do with the A/C electrically. It does however have everything to do with it cooling the condenser. So if the fan doesn't work you would have performance issues with the A/C and high side pressures would be to high.

The labelling on that wiring diagram is truly pathetic.

The temp sensor should just close a circuit to ground when the coolant gets to the temperature where the fan is needed. As long as the sensor you get does that, it will work for you. On mine, I have a 2 speed Volvo fan, so I have the BMW 2 speed sensor - that is in the description on the page I referenced in my earlier post. Since your fan is a single speed, you only need 1 temperature point where the sensor turns on.

I agree with Uncle Gump, your air conditioner issue is not related to this from what you have told us.

First... lets understand that what you want to put in the hose adaptor to control the fan relay is NOT a sender or sensor... it is a switch. ON or OFF... there is no variable resistance signal... it simply opens or closes a path to ground to control the fan relay.

Second... everything you added that is fan related has zero to do with the Check Engine Light.... Zero.

There are thousands of things that will turn the check engine light ON... but the fan and related wiring are none of them. I would suggest hooking up a scanner and see what code you're getting.

I bought various sensors/senders/switches etc on the fleabay....got various temp ranges to try out.

Very good. Thanks!

You are very right about that diagram. I wound up using one I found here.
