Im doing the saginaw ps pump swap (cardone, '79 Tbird HD pump)
I got the old flywheel off the o.e. pump and onto the new saginaw and got it bolted into place with no grinding of any kind needed on the bracket, (its a 91 2.9 ranger). I decided to replace both the pressure line and the return line. Hooked it all up, bled the system and went for a drive......my steering is silent, no more waaaahhhhh waaaahhhhh.

but I noticed a steady dripping from the ps pressure line fitting where it attaches to the pump I removed the line and checked for stripped threads but they were fine. In the cheap little instruction booklet that came with the line it had three pictures of possible fitting types two with a removable O-ring and a third of a different style with no rubber o ring which seemed to match the ranger line I bought.
It only has a white plastic washer, I am assuming this is what seals the line to the pump but it sits at the base of the treads and tightening it down completely to sandwich it in tight seems to be excessive (especially because it only calls for 10-20 lbs of torque.)
Does this white plastic washer need to fit snug between the line and the pump?
All the write ups Ive seen on this say it fits in just fine with the o.e. pump lines.....Am I missing something, perhaps an O ring, Could this problem be solved by using a sort of teflon plumbers tape or do you think that my line or reman'd pump is fawked?

The white plastic (teflon) ring is what is called for. However these things are tempermental. Mess around with the torque while its running. See if tighting it up a little more won't fix the drip. If it still won't seal you probably need a new o-ring.

+1.

When I did the writeup I used Teflon tape on all the threads. I usually do on any hydraulic fittings.

All it took was a couple of trips around the threads with some teflon tape, sealed it right up. Got my core charge back from checker with no hassle either, even though it was the cheap plastic ranger pump. This swap turned out to be well worth the time and $ in my opinion.
