It the short block itself different? I have a bad 88 for the with a TFI ignition and a distributer and a line on a free 91 8 plug block... I would imagine that the 91 would not have a place to stick the diistributer :(

the blocks are interchangable, you'll want the oil pan and stuff, if you use the head off of your engine it'll all work with your intake and stuff... there's a spot for the distributor in the block.

or you could do a little bit of wiring and use the dual plug head and DIS ignition system.

My plan is (to do the least amount of work) and to throw the dizzy on and thats it.... we will use 4 of the 8 plugs and go.... that work?

No sure what you meant bout the oil pan being diff if but I follow my plan and it will work then it shouldnt matter right?

Thanks again

the problem with that plan is the intake pattern is different between the 4 and 8 plug intake so you would have to use the newer intake, and the problem with that is the distributor won't fit... (doesn't hurt to try though, you might be able to modify the intake a little to get it to fit)

if you have an aluminum oil pan they are the same, unless you have a 4x4, there's a slight difference between it and the 4x2 pans and you would want to use the 4x4 pan...

how can I tell the difference between a 4x4 and 4x2 aluminum pan? and are the oil pick ups the same?

the only difference is a little bump on the bottom in the engine crossmember area on the drivers side I think. if you have a 4x2 and end up with a 4x4 pan you won't notice a difference, the pickups are the same, it's just a clearance bump...

just making a 2.3 4x4 ranger, was ready to drop in a engine from a 2wd, you saved me from a " WTF ! ", thanks for the info!

it would most likely work, I have a picture of my 4x4 oil pan, would post it if I hadnt fried my computer... but really it is a small bump in the pan
