Another 5.0 Ranger?

Hello, ive recently picked up a 97 reg cab short box 2wd Ranger and am kinda at a stand still on a swap, I have a 351W w/ a C6 and B&M shifter that I was going to use but from what I've read a 351W/C6 is too big. Fab work isn't an issue if that is why ppl say its too big to fit the Ranger, but I also found a good deal on a 89 Town Car with a 302 (and AOD).A buddy has a 4 spd he's gonna give me and so I guess my question is this, being a SD engine (the 302) can I use a manual trans on that motor or will the ecm not like having no AOD tranny to read? Im just waiting on that to gather the rest of my parts, any help would be great. Thanks everyone

You can fit what you have, you just have to make custom headers, seen it done in a gen1 though.

That 89 set-up will slide in and give you 150hp and 288lb ft of torque stock iirc. Off your not going for high power, decent fuel mileage, that's the setup to go with.

Tech library has a write-up in it on how to put that set-up in a ranger.
