so this week im getting an android for free, its my moms but shes buying my buddies droid cause she wants a full keyboard. i have a straight talk plan and cant afford to switch to a real cell phone plan. so here are my questions.

1. can i switch the android to my straight talk? straight talk uses verizons towers and thats what this phone uses too. i know people have switched regular verizon phones to straight talk but im not sure you can do it with a smarter then me phone.

2. i know i can still use the wifi, but is there any texting apps like you can get for the ipod touch? one that uses the internet rather than a plan?

if not its not a big deal as its free and i can still use it to surf the web in town and also as an MP3 player.

all smart phones require a data plan, If you are a prepaid verison customer this may not work. You need to talk to a verison rep.

thanks but this doesnt nswer any of my questions. i dont want to deal with verizon. they dont like me anymore, apparently its frowned upon to refuse to pay your bill after they screwed something up and sent me the bill for 600 dollars and refused to admit they made the mistake. :annoyed:

thats why i have a straight talk phone now. and straight talk does offer smart phones (for full retail :thefinger: F that) so i know its possible but not sure if you can switch to a smartphone after the fact.

If it's a Verizon phone I think it can only be used with Verizon.

i know for fact you can do it with a regular verizon phone. i dealt with customer service for a friend that did it with a plain jane flip phone. i just want to know if its possible with a smart phone before i call them and deal with the people that dont know any english.

alright so im not really to worried about putting it on my plan it would have just been an awesome bonus. does anybody know of any texting apps that use the internet? i know they have em for the ipod touch and they work decent.

ever heard of page plus cellular? they work of verizons network and they allow bring your own device, they allow droids to be activated too. phones from other CDMA carriers like sprint/cricket can be brought over if ya know how to reprogram them. page plus is prepaid, they got 10$ for 100 min, 25$ for 400min 30$ for 1200min/1200text and 45$ for unlimited voice/text/50mb data. they will activate any phone with an esn, except blackberries and inpulse phones, those are black listed. i got a few phones on pageplus and i havn't seen a better option yet.

sweet! i used the store location thing and theres a dealer in the next town. im gonna look into that.
so do i just bring the phone into the store and tell them what i want?

lucky u. i have to manually program my phones, im pretty sure a dealer could set you up. you dont have to deal with verizon reps also, the only verizon you will use is just there cellular network.

Good luck with only using 50MB a month of data. Smart phones now are using data anytime you are on them. Making calls, sending text, or (what I'm doing right now) online reading forums. I have the unlimited data plan with Verizon and I average about 300MB per month. I don't stay on my phone constantly either. Something to check into for sure.

I love android phones. I've had the droid1&2, htc incredible, and now have the droid x. In 5 years Google will own a little bit of everything.

set data for wifi only, i remeber on some older phones that would get there data by emulating a dial up modem, with unlimited voice, u could get unlimited data also!
