Amps an Subs

I have a 4 ohm amp (memphis 16-st1100d),and i have set of JL 12w6's (6 ohm). My question is what would happen if i hooked them up tp that amp?

Im thinking of selling the 12w6's because they are too big to fit behind the seats comfortably. what would be the best sub to run.(i have a reg cab, so its a tight fit)
I was looking into maybe 2 pioneer TS-SW2541D 10"ers.

You should be able to find a wiring diagram on www.crutchfield.com or some thing for a 6 ohm sub but ues that amp will power them. And just like you i have a reg. cab ranger. I have been researching for the past couple of months for my truck and i have just done it for no reason because i like it, anyways. On ebay if you type in " ranger sub " and scroll down you should find a carpeted box sold by a guy out of TN. In this box you can fit an Alpine type S, a JL Audio 10w1v2, and a Total Mobile Audio 10 which is made by JL. I wouldn't really trust Pioneer just because some are kind of cheap and you can get that TMA 10 for 50 bucks or less. Hope this helps.

I always thought of pioneer as a decent brand for speakers and head units, but not so much as a reputable brand for subs and amps. But i have read a lot of reviews and they seem to be pretty good. I can't find any other ow profile subs (3" mounting depth) that will take that much power. I will probably turn my amp way down and not abuse that subs anyway. I got a really good deal on the amp, and i know its capable of running a lot more than i can ever cram behind my seats.
I had the JL 12"ers behind there but couldn't seem to find the space for a big enough box fit with out sliding my seats into the dash.

As far a box goes, I plan to make my own, i have made a couple of boxes for friends and they all sealed up tight and sound damn good.

If your lookin for the low profiles kicker and fosgate have some pretty BA subs. Yeah you can save a lot of money makin your own box too. I work at a cabinet shop so i can get mdf for free and cut the parts on a CNC mchine haha. When you get it done send me a messege or somethin and let me know how it sounds im wanting pretty well the exact same set up.

memphis has some slim subs that can handle some power. dont quote me on this but i think theyre 12 can take 500w. i think theyre the s-class line. RE audio has some slim subs on their site.

fordboi415, sorry man put em on craigslist and they were gone the next day, got 50 a peice. All i got left is a box that is way to small for 12s

I have spent the past couple days looking at dfferent brands of subs and reading what they recomend for box sizes. And I can't go much bigger if any at all, anything bigger requires more box than I can fit comfortably. Spent a year with the 12s behind the seat, an I got tired of having my seat so far forward all the time. The biggest box I can fit and still have almost full function of seats is about .55 cubic feet (just right for the Pioneers). I can fit a 3" mounting depth sub and and about 1/2 to 5/8 of an ich of clearance (about where I want to be). I have spent a lot of time measuring and doing the math to get as much box behind the seat as I can. So far the pioneers are the best fit as far as power-to-box size ratio goes. Any more power and I will have to make a bigger box (not what want to do). The price and good reviews for the Pioneers make me want to try them for a while, if I don't like then then i guess Ill just sell them.

i have 2 12 inch pioneers and do pretty well.... i would recomend them for sure!!! just my opinion

I have a 10" pioneer, and I love it. It is so clear, and I only have a 200w amp. Oh and by the way.... i picked it up at wal-mart for 48 bucks.

Ok so I have changed my mind. I was looking on the Memphis audio site and found exactly what I want. I think the 15-SC12 looks pretty good. I can run two of them. They are 12" subs that are only 3" mounting depth, and run 500 and peak at 1000 or 1200. Not to mention there is a stereo shop in town that sells them. Best part is I can put two of them in a 1 cuft box, which will work out since I have space for about 1.1 cuft.

Have you checked out soundsplinter? or digital designs audio? both the 1508 from DDaudio and the RL-i8 from sound splinter take pretty small boxs, will handle 500w RMS and hit hard. I know with a pair of RL-i8s and 2000w in a properly tuned box you can hit 150db.

the RL-i8 requires atleast 5.65" mountng depth, I have about 3" - 4" to work with. DDAudio has one that is under 4" but its only a 6.5'' and by the time I buy 4 it will excede the cost of two Memphis 12"s. But thanks for the links rat-ranger, if I ever get an ext. cab I might look into something on those sites.

I also looked at the JL Audio shallow subs, they want around 500 for a 10", they sure are awful proud of those.

yeah. they do take a bit of room. I have a soundsplinter RL-i10 squeezed into my reg cab, but being newer than 98 it gives me those 3 extra inches. and this is a case where size matters. good luck with your choices, just remember tune the box properly and itll sound better.
