so i know some of you have followed my ext cab build that i did a couple of months ago, but if not heres a link to it http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=74314. so onto my problem, recently ive been noticing my music going "flat", the drivers side speakers cut out and my sub woofer seems to get quieter. i have wiggles the rcas on all the amps, since they are chained together, but this has done nothing for me. i was frustrated with it the other day so i reached back there while i was driving and i smacked the amp and all of a sudden my speakers came back on and they stayed that way until the next day. what could be causing this "shorting" and why does it go away when i become abusive? could having it mounted so soilidly to the back of the cab transfer virabtion so well that it has wiggled loose a soldered joint on the circuit board?

can a joint come lose..... yes very much so.

can it come lose from bouncing around and the viberations. mmmmmmmmmm prolly not unless you have installed 4 18inch woofers in there and when baha'ing thur the mohab when i wasnt looking. just pop it open and see what you find.

thanks 4x4, im hoping that by opening it up ill be able to find the source of the problem, as long as im looking in the right place. im thinking that its probably the solder joint at the terminal coming from the rca jack to the circuit board. i dont usually abuse my truck, but over the past few weeks ive been driving down this road that is very wash boarded and i think that may be the cause of the short, this road will make your teeth rattle out of your skull!

so the other day i was detailing the inside of my truck and listening to the radio when the left side cut out on me again. since i wasnt driving it i decided to do some poking around and found that the RCA cables that run from the HU to the input side of the first amp in my series of amps had a bad connection. i used some small pliers and closed the end of the cable a little tighter and then plugged it back in and walla! its working again! the cables still fit poorly, but atleast i know that smacking my amp is not the proper solution!

well its still cutting out now and again, so i think there may be a break in the wire towards the end of the rca cable rather than just being a loose connection? either way it kind of sucks because theyre only a couple of months old and its going to be a pain to replace them when they stop working altogether.
