I have a kenwood 600W amp feeding a scoche (wal-mart brand) 10" sub in a standard non-ported box. I was messing around with the settings to get it to sound better, and found that there is a switch that controls the "LPF" (not sure what it stands for, but i have an idea). Switched it on, and also switched the head unit (sony xplod) on to its LPF setting. Worked AMAZING for about two weeks; now there is absolutely no sound coming from the sub. Amp powers up, all the wires are good, along with the fuses. The lines from the side of the box to the inside of the sub are also good. I spent a few checking out the input lines and they seem satisfactory too.

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!?!? :icon_confused:

The sub doesn't look damaged and the amp DOES turn on. WTF??

LPF stands for "Low Pass Filter" which limits the frequency response of the sub. Hypothetically, you shouldn't have damaged anything, as I ran the LPF on my deck and my amp simultaneusly multiple times when adjusting settings. Only suggestions I can offer is maybe check the RCA connections on the back of the head unit, or check the diagnostic lights (if any). My Scosche amp had LED's for low voltage (typically bad ground) short (grounding out), thermal (overheating), and normal operation. Do you have any additional LED's come on? Use a multimeter to check that you are getting between 11.5-14.4 volts at the amp on the psitive and negative. A faulty ground will still power the amp but it will not power the sub. This is the most common fault I've seen, as corrosion can set in rapidly, or the connection is not very clean (try sanding a little to get a good ground).

Well what he said is correct... but I assume its probably just the Sh!tty scoche sub that burned out... I would say maybe the sony HU could have popped power to the line out or fried that connection... but like james said the amp and HU should be fine. My guess is that the sub just died. or it has a fuse on it that may have popped. Put your hand to the sub with music on and crank the bass up and feel if its moving. if so then my guess is something fried either in the sub or amp. if its not its more likely its not recieving any input from the deck or its popped.

If you have checked all the wires and connections and grounds and fuses, then You more then likely blew something and my moneys on the sub.

thanks muchly for the assistance..i have a back-up sub in my storage locker downstairs so i will give that a go..i'll repost my findings after supper..hashbrowns and HOME-MADE SUBS!!!! :headbang:

you can also check the coils on the sub to see if there fried...if one reads "open" (meaning it has no reading or reads crazy) then its gone and prly not much you can do with it since it is a cheap sub...if it was something like RE, DD, DC, FI, Sundown, or something higher end like those you could recone it.

re-grounded the amp, re-checked all the wiring, pulled the sub AGAIN and tested..nothing. Also, i pulled the dash last night to check the output wiring from the HU to the amp; its golden. I think the sub has seen its last days. I may wire in the spare one tonight; although its a cheapy as well (can't afford anything...yet)...

Eh... don't worry. Just don't go buy another cheapy if this ones not good... save up and get a nice one! And do plenty of research about how reliable the subs are, not so much the sound cause you will get mixed reviews because every setups different.

My friend go a 300 dollar sub.. .a kenwood and frankly it wasn't the best sounding cause he got cheap stuff to go with it, and it blew within like 2 3 months. got another one exactly like it except it was the premium one he just blew that one too. turned out they aren't very reliable. I personally love my memphis! 400w max but damned does it sound good in the cab and doesn't annoy others.

ya..the scoche is f*cked..put in the spare (American Legacy, 600W) an sounded like absolute crap..but it thumped. I guess thats what i get for using a 450W sub on a 600W amp lmao! I love the way it sounds, i just may have to spend the $50 to get a new one from Wally-mart..
