ammo can center console construction

well ive got a 92 ranger that i swapped explorer buckets into and i tried the explorer console but i just wasent feeling the abs plastic. so i decided to build myself an ammo can console. started with the can which measures 11x10x6 (.50 cal i think)and an 1/8'' sheet of t6 aluminium. thought about painting it but i rather like its character. pictures soon

alright trial and error update! so my ranger is carpetless so i figured hey ill just rivet it to the floor, once its in its not comin out right. well heres the deal ford sprayed this sound deadening insulation down on the floor which completely ruined my plans. the insulation would appear to be flat but when i set the drill bit down on it to drill, it punched right thru and i discovered there was a v shaped valley in the metal for structural reasons. so im gonna have to pull it back out and open up the holes in my brackets for bolts lol.

strvger, I did exactly that to mine, but made them removeable. Handiest things in the world! One full of tools that I'm always using, one full of gloves, tiedowns, ductape, etc. made mine removeable, (held in with a cotter pin so I can bring the toolbox with me!) I've got a .50 cal for when I convert to bucket seats so I'm really looking foward to seeing how you do yours TE! I've even got yet another one or two that I plan to mount in the bed so I can keep bigger misc. crap in it and outta the passsenger seat but I'll bolt it in and weld on a tab so I can lock em. I found a deal and got 7 boxes in 3 sizes for like $20 so I'm kinda ammo box crazy lol

I hung a pair of 20MM under my flatbed, like the high dollar side boxes. Work pretty well, so far...

i jus cut my 40/60 seats and in the middle of mounting an ammo can. i didnt think about it till i had cut the seats but i think it would have looked bad ass to replace the old arm rest with the can and have it be able to fold up.

Cameras broke or I would if I get it fixed I will. I drilled a hole in the little sheetmetal brace that comes off the rear inside of the cab on my 92' put a stud in and tossed a lockwasher and nut on either side drilled a hole in both ends for cotter pins and put a piece of heater hose between the box and sheetmetal brace for a quiet, tight mount. Works perfect. I wanted to use a couple strong magnets so I could keep the ammo cans weather tight but couldn't find any strong enough. but now I could roll the truck and not worry about them somehow coming loose and giving me the big KO lol. Oh and I just thought of this I've seen studs like what I made already fabbed up in stores that specialize in lawn equipment, tractors or heavy equipment! I just didn't wanna spend the money so I made mine outta the parts bin I have.

Oh and SnC you could still take some foam, cut it down and get some vinyl to cover it and some good adhesive and stick it on there. Ooooo any maybe get real inventive and fab up some sheetmetal cupholders to weld or poprivit to the front too. Wow thats a good idea for when I install mine. hmmmmmm

I actually use mine for ammo, beleive it or not.
