aluminum brazing rod?

yep i have them. I used them for a lot of different things.
Just like brazing with a oxy/act torch just a different metal in the rod.
You can use a propane torch but Mapp works much better unless you have a hot head propane torch.
they are OK for some things others not so good. Main thing is the metal has to be clean with these rods.

I have also used some. Make sure you use a stainless steel brush to clean the aluminum when you are going to solder. It does take some practice so make sure you order extra to practice with.

Don't expect it to be strong or last very long, but they do kind of work, sorta.

What is the advantage to using it then?

They're an easy quick fix. You don't need a whole GTAW set up to repair aluminum parts but you are better off waiting to TIG it so you'll have a stronger, more durable joint.

brazing is done with brass. This would be considered gas welding, much different because you're actually welding the metal together. Brazing is kinda like just putting glue on it..

I forget exactly what it is, Aluminiod rod, something like that. Basically soldiering it. They use it to repair boat props and radiators, because of it's ability to build up from the initial base metal. Gas welding aluminum is more frustrating than your girl-friend going through "her time of the month". I'll only Tig aluminum. It's not like steel where the oxide coating has a lower melting temperature. Aluminum Oxide has a higher melting temperature, than the base metal aluminum, which must be removed before welding.

I see, I figured we were talking about gas welding aluminum. Since its solder wouldn't it have a certain % of lead in it?

that's the ones i have. I have about 4 pounds of them. They are tough the repaired area is way stronger than the other metal.

NO, brazing is no done solely with brass. Brazing is a process whereby a non-ferrous filler metal ( no iron, "FE" on the periodic table ) or alloy is heated and bonds two or more close-fitting parts by capillary action.

So the rods braze the aluminum pieces together. You do not melt the part that is being mended so it is NOT gas welding.

or other words, brazing is the process, it does not mean exclusively for brass rod though.

thanks for the input.
