My alt went out on my 87 B2 this week. I'm getting a new one Monday. The parts house has a 75amp in stock. Still an upgrade over the stock 60. A guy on the B2 forums said he installed a 100amp on his, and he thought it was originaly off of a 92 ranger. But he wasn't sure. Anyone know for a fact about this? And if so, from specifically which motor and year am I looking for? I don't plan on running any crazy sound system. Definitely some offroad lights eventually, but thats it. Do I even need the 100?

with modern upgrades taking more and more power (amps) to run properly, I would suggest that you get the biggest bang for your buck that you can afford. There are 200 amp alternators as a part of on truck welding kits that you could install... question is, do you want a 2000 dollar welding kit?

I think you can also find a 200 amper from summit or jegs but you'll have to have new brackets fabbed up in order to run it.

upgrade

www.motorcityreman.com they get my vote.
Bought a used one from TRS classified
, which broke after over a year.
Sent it back and got a new one free !!!

I believe the 1992 will be a different mounting pattern than yours.

if you want an upgarded 200A alternator, think again about buying one from PowerMasrer. You will have to make complete new brackets and the alternators themselves are not that good.

185A is the biggest you can have a stock case wound too according the Motor City Reman.

my my buddy holyford86.. he installed a 130amp taurus alt on his 2.9 an it worked awesome wasnt that hard of an install either.

Hahahaha....wow. I'm asking about bumping up 15-40 amps, and you guys are trying to sell me on ones to power welders!! ;missingteeth; Hahaha....I'm not worried about that. Not that I don't appreciate the input, I didn't even know such things existed!! All I need is enough extra power to run some lights. Thats about it. I'm on a pretty tight budget with no material, time, or money (I'm a college student) to fab up brackets for a different one (much less afford a high power one). I'll just go in tomorrow and get the 75 amp one the store has on hand and bolt it in. Gets me up and running quick with a bit of a power boost for them lights I want, and won't completely break the bank. :icon_cheers: Thanks guys!

I installed a GM one wire 140 amp alt. Had to fab up a few things to make it fit as well at some interesting pullys to get dual v belts on it.
