Ok so I just got my alternator tuned up or whatever because it seemed like it couldn't keep up with the demand, Its a 40 amp:annoyed: i had thought that it was a 65 amp and was just lacking power. He said it was in really good shape for how old it was (it has been in there since 1984), and that it could be the regulator and stuff. But my question is, should I get a higher amp alternator because am running around 800w in lights alone and another 800w or so for my stereo, which is supposed to draw around 91 amps at 12v. Is there any vehicle that might have a power output close to this? (I have a 88 or 89 t bird with one?) Or can I just make something up and run dual alternators and increase my power that way?

If it's a 2.8, you can use a higher output alternator from a gm of around the same vintage, they are almost a direct bolt in. Just have to change a few wires.

The GM alternators seem to go out a lot from my experiences though... and to my knowledge this is the the first time my alternator has been rebuilt ever extremely durable.

That's not my experience. You are limited in the size of alternator output by the drive belt. The 5 row serpentine of a newer truck can handle a lot more power than your ve-belt. If martine is correct you should be able to find an 80amp replacement for next to nothing.

I'm using a gm one wire 140 works great.
also using an isolator and 2 deka agms in the bed.
