Hello, just replaced the timing belt on my son's 1990 Ranger with a 2.3l. He removed the alternator and labeled the wire +/_ but did not mark the posts he removed them from. Now, with everything back together when he goes to start it we hear the fuel pump kick in but that it all. Battery was reading 12.36 volts. my question is, wondering if the alternator is not hooked up properly, or it is something else. Timing marks top and bottom lined up also before reassembly.

I don't get out much, so never have seen a B+ dual post before.

The Black/orange and Orange/light blue are the B+ wires

I would disconnect that 3rd wire until you find out where it goes, but it looks like it is just spliced to one of the other wires.

If you have an OHM meter I would test resistance between the two B+ posts, if 0 OHMs then they are just for connecting multiple wires, no +/-
And if they were separate hook ups they would have labels denoting that

Alternators don't usually have Ground post, the case is the ground and it is grounded by mounting bracket and Battery ground wire to engine block.

Thanks, for the info. will check it out. We found a picture I had taken of the engine before taken everything was taken apart ant it appears that the wires are on correctly. Still need to figure out what wires are what so we can replace the alternate at a later date. Local shop can't even test it with the posts hookup.

before hooking up the alternator to wiring. You can check the for plus and minus with an ohmmeter. Neg will have no ohms between the case and the neg post.

May have found the problem with it not starting. My son removed a wire from the starter relay that I believe goes to the push button start. Rewiring it now.

It was the lone wire to the starter relay. Thanks for the help guys.
