It appears as if my electrical system is limited to one type of alternator. The 2.0 wiring has two plugs and an internal regulator. I've taken alternators off mustangs and other year Rangers that worked, but was considering being able to swap out the two plug system for something a little more popular...or, rather, up to date...
Anyone done this to a Gen 1 Ranger with any success (without actually changing the entire wiring harness)?
The new alternator is installed and seems to be working...
Oh, and another question...I found this morning while trying to charge the battery that the wire from the starter to the solenoid was broken clean in two...could be what was causing the system to loose battery charge as I noticed last night that my lights were dim...the truck otherwise started and ran fine...but was wondering if the broken wire could have caused the alternator to finally go...
It was an older alternator that was due for replacement any time soon...but too soon...
