This morning I was comin home from a buddies house and of course it looked like I was in the middle of a terrential(sp) downpour. I was driving slower than usual because of the weather. Well good thing I did because I went to stop and I had completely no brakes. I was in the turn lane trying to get the truck to slow down by downshifting.i had to cut across the intersection because it was the only place cars weren't. Ironically a ranger was in front of me and pretty much cleared the oncoming lane for me. Long story short I think that today gave me a big reality check.

Close call! Glad you are OK. What happened with your brakes? Lose the booster?

Thanks man I was more worried about the wife being in there than anything. Honestly I've been so irritated that I haven't even looked. But before they went out it felt like it was pulling to the left. I thought that the bearings were shot, apparently I was wrong.

If the booster was gone he'd still have brakes just no vacuum assist. Most likely blew a brake line or the master cylinder shit the bed.

Check your rear brake cylinder for leaks.

^^I agree check the brake cylinders, those things fail and will dump your brake fluid pretty quick and you won't even know until you goto stop. A friend of mine had one fail in her S-10 I still don't know how she made it across town back to her house without getting in a wreck it literally had no brakes at that point. I think it was like $10-15 for the brake cylinders I replaced both of them for her as the other one was leaking a little as well, plus changed her brake shoes while I had everything apart. Truck stopped on a dime after that.

Good to hear that ya'll made it!

A little update:turns out it was the inner bearings that got way to hot and exploded. Also the pins on the break pads were so worn the pads fell out of the caliper causing me to have no brakes. Tore her down and put new brakes on all four corners. Now she stops on a dime and gives ya change back. I can't believe I didn't check the pads sooner but now I know to every now and then just to make sure.

Yikes - glad all came out okay. I live on the top of a steep hill and think every morning going down it about using the parking brake - just in case.
