Does it bolt to the firewall?

Also, is there a part that screws into the power steering reservoir/pump so that the metal tubing screws into it? Would that part be the power steering pressure switch? Do you have a picture of it?

Thanks!

The tube in the picture looks like part of the vacuum system, mounted on the intake, I'd have to go look at mine and see exactly where...As for as the power steering yes, that is for the pressure switch, when the steering is turned and the ECU senses a pressure rise, it raises the engine rpm...

Hey! That tubing might connect the intake manifolf port, which has a rubber hose on it, to the evaporative emissions cannister vacuum hose! The missing link. I'll see how/where it bolts in.

Can you tell me where to find this switch? And do you have a picture of it? Is it on the pump, a hose, ???

Thanks

PS I'll check back in an hour, I'm off to the garage.

It's mounted on the pressure hose, a Tee fitting...It'd take me a little, but I can take a pic for you if needed...

Here is your tube...

Here is the power steering pressure hose, its hard to see, but the switch is on the bottom side of the hose

well, i'll be darned, i g uess. just got back from the parts store. i'll go look and see if i can find that switch again. i'm guessing one side of it connects to the p/s pressure hose, and the other side of it connects to ? gotta eat something first. back in an hour to report my search findings.

oh, great pix, thanx for showing me that little tubing connector. one end goes to intake port, other end goes to evap emissions vacuum, yes?

Thats correct on the evap canister...The PS hose goes from the pump to the gearbox, with the switch inline on the hose...

i think that hose you're pointing at is not the pressure hose. i think that's the return hose, because it enters at the top of the reservoir, which is at the bottom of the fill/measure chamber, which has the screw cap on it. The power hose comes out at the bottom of the pump/reservoir, winds around down and toward the front of the vehicle to enter the steering gear box from the front. Nonetheless, I ran my hands the full length of both hoses, from pump to gearbox, and there is no electrical connector or T-fitting on either hose.

Is this T-fitting with the pressure switch an integral part of one of those hoses? If so, which one? If it's not an integral part, then it must have been added at one of the ends of one of the hoses. If so, which hose, and which end?

If I could just indentify the thing, see a picture of this T-thing, I will have a better chance of finding it.

I hope i'm making sense to you.

I've searched the garage four times looking for a T fitting for a vacuum hose, with a male two prong connector on it, and have come up with nothing.

Our trucks might be different...I have a 96 ranger 2.3L....my PS pressure hose comes out where I pointed, loops towards the firewall then enters the gearbox, with my pressure switch at the fitting near the gearbox...your vehicle/motor may have not had one...If you notice in the pics abve there is a sensor on the brake master cylinder that is not hooked up, that MC is actually off an explorer that used the sensor, my truck don't have that circuit, so it was left in place and unhooked...

well, since I can't find the thing, I must not have one. I will do one more thorough check near the gearbox, see if one of those hoses has a fitting to attach the rubber to the metal, with a connector on it. I will be totally amazed if I find it. I've been out there three days now trying to find it. I won't need it anyway, because I never jam the steering wheel into full lock and ignore my truck's distress. I don't understand why people aren't taught to go to lock and immediately come back a little, to avoid that horrible sound of distressed pump straining in vain. Oh, well, to each their own ride.

I appreciate that you took the time to go out in the rain and take pictures for me. Thank you.

Anytime, glad I could help ya out :icon_thumby:

I remember talking to the OP (Patrick) last fall when he was searching for info on his question about the vacuum lines/connectors on the evap harness. Since I also have a 1995 Ranger, I assumed they all had a power steering pressure switch. Maybe I helped send him a wild goose chase. I happened to look at the new power steering hose that is awaiting installation in my truck and noticed that it does have the T-fitting for the switch, but they also include a threaded plug to fill the hole. Makes me think that some models have it, some don't. I would have assumed that all 95-97 4 bangers with power steering would be identical.

I'll try to post a pic of it for future reference/clarity.
