:icon_confused:goin to work turning off highway hauling 500lbs or tools my axle shaft came out of my axle tube.this is from a 92 4.0l ranger 8.8 27 spline with ls with 5.13 gears put professionally in at a shop.i was going 60mph slowing to 30 mph lucky it didnt fully come off on the highway i might not be here talking about this or even killed someone else. now here is my question how can a c-clip come loose on the highway i wasnt in the bush or rallying, and havent been really hard on this truck since i had the gears put in just burning 33" tires around some corners a couple times and hard acceleration. i thought with the limited slip putting less stress on the axle i was ok or you would think that the a4ld tranny would go first.its in the same shop i got the gears put in waiting to see if they will scew me over since its still under warranty and if i have to go to court over it i will because this is just insane... any input will be awsome thx :icon_confused:

Did the C-clip break, or did it fall out? If it fell out, then something wasn't right when the diff was put back together.

Unless you're really lucky, the C-clip was probably damaged when it came out and got bashed around inside the diff on the ring and/or pinion gears. I'd be dropping it back off at the shop that did the work, and as for an explanation. Also be there when they pull the cover off the diff to see for yourself. Hopefully nothing inside the diff got damaged, glad to hear you're all right

If it's put together right, I honestly can't think of how it could possibly fall out. Unless it was damaged.

Unless.... Do you know if they put in an uber-notched cross pin in with those 5.13's? I can see if the cross pin spun, or if they notched it themselves it could leave enough space for the axle shaft to back into the carrier enough to get spit out. Normally they're supposed to be twisted 90° then you put the retaining pin in, so the shafts don't go back toward the center of the diff (thus allowing the c-clips to not be retained anymore inside the spider gear). They may not have done this.

Either way it sounds like the shop didn't do something right, I'd come in looking an extra sort of pissed off.

C-clips can come out IF the limited slip clutches are very worn or if it wasn't stacked properly IE not enough friction plates or steel plates.

i dont know if i want to drive this thing again with the same axle if what bent bolt said is true because the shop opened the rear to inspect it when i did some work to the locker in the front a 3 months back and they showed me the spiders were galled up and worn and the ls was already worn to shit and they just threw the custom cover back on and called it good so they are the last ones to touch it not me. and as for what yyc t-bird said bout being in the shop id take some god damn pics tommorow morning. im still in too much stress and awww about the whole thing to be right pissed off yet

For that to happen there would be ton of slop and very noticable when driving it.

To sue you going to have to prove they messed up in court. To get another mechanic to go against another mechanic is hard to do.

You didn't get hurt. Suing is not appropriate. It might seem like a good idea but that's the problem with our lawyers lately. They convince people to sue over everything.

i would just give insentive to go to court just to show that i have them by the balls and not to screw with me

sounds like they screwed up along the way, just cause its a shop dont mean they dont F up now and then. i would tell them to fix it on their dime or you'll take them to court

sorry dont have any pic yet but he said that he doesnt give a warranty but i know by law that hes suppose to give one.and the fact that i got 3000$ rebuild on my tranny and they put in used parts with new and how come they gave me a 1 year warranty. this is not adding up. and i think my tranny park pin or whatever might be frawked now because i didnt turn the engine off before putting it in park. i didnt think my god damn axle shaft came out until i went to the side of the truck to see.ive had my drive shaft ujoint bust off and knew then but i was totally confused this time because i knew i fixed that driveshaft .

I'm guessing either the cross-pin was ground by someone very incompetent or the clutches were VERY worn out.
