I've been on here a couple of times over the last year or so with the same problem, but its getting worse till the point now where i dont want to drive it any more and get stranded. I have it narrowed down to something is killing power to the fuel pump and spark plugs at the same time. Now what i've changed- Ignition switch, fuses, relay, fuelpump, ecc , battery, sprayed electrical cleaner on the ecc plug and put some electrial grease on it. By the way it is a 95 ranger, 3.0, automatic, extra cab. With my hours getting cut I cant go out and buy a new one yet----please help:icon_confused: Matt
 
If it only tends to happen while driving, check for loose broken alternator clip (most likely not it), and check all the connectors that control or communicate with CPU from ingition, distributor, etc.
 
Do you know if it only happens while driving or if you leave it idling does it do it too. And does it just turn off or sputter out. it may be a broken wire too not just a part you should make friends with a multimeter
 
I have a mulimeter, and it happens 95% of the time on start ups. It will start up (most of the time) and then 2 sec. later quit as if I turned it off usually till recent I would wait 20 sec then I would hear the pump turn on then I would crank it then it would start and run fine. My dad questions the plug going into the ecc but thats not something you can swap out with 50 wires going to it. I do know for a fact that if I dont hear the pump then I dont have spark---please be something easy:icon_confused::icon_confused:
 
i have noticed that fords around 93 to 98 if u dont wait about 10 seconds after turning thay dont start well turn the key wait 10 to 15 seconde it starts every time.
 
Check the physical security of the PCM power diode in the under hood fusebox. (don't reverse its position) Make sure its contacts are good. Otherwise, it sounds like an ignition switch problem.

Ive waited as long as 30min.

How do you figure out which one it is? as far as the ignition switch already tried that.
 
No i have not would that cut to power to the fuel pump and the spark?

We'll tried the crankshaft postion sensor and no change so is anyone interested in a perfect running ranger:icon_rofl:
 
How about the fuel pump inertia cut-off switch?
It's probably located around the passenger side
footwell, near the firewall. Try pushing the reset
button and see if it has any effect.....

What relay ? Inspect the connectors for both the eec relay AND the fuel pump relay. Break a pin off an old relay and slide it into each slot. It should feel tight. You can swap relays with known good ones like horn ,fog lamp or wiper relays.
