alignment tool

for a4ld. Must I use a real alignment tool and can I use the torque converter shaft to align the pump and bell housing? I saw on youtube a guy use the tc to align them but I just want to be sure it's ok.

Yes it wil work. Tool is best option but converter will get you there. Good luck.

Also often overlooked or simply not understood, is the engine transmission alignment

There are Dowels on the engine to align crank and transmissions input shaft
It is assumed the bellhousing is aligned for input shaft, what you are doing now

The dowels are there so the bellhousing is aligned with engine/crank when its in place
So give the dowels a look, make sure they are tight and not crooked, and the bellhousing holes for them are not worn

Even a small misalignment here will break the flexplate over time
