Alarm? Or no alarm...that is the question.

Good day to all. Picked up a '96 extended cab ranger with a 2.3 L/5 spd just before Christmas. Once I got it home, I let it set a couple of days before looking at it once again. When I got back to it, I used the electric locks to lock the truck, then, remembering something that I needed to get out of the passenger seat, I used the key to unlock the passenger door. This set the horn off. It took me to start the truck to get it to stop.

The previous owner told me later that this happened to him a few times, but he never received a remote to it when he bought it. He owned it for about 9 years. Is this an alarm rearing its ugly head, or something else entirely. Secondly, Ford has no way :icon_confused: of telling if this truck was produced with an alarm or not, as a collective on this site, is there something that would lead me one way or another.

Thanks, all.

The factory alarm can be shut off by unlocking either the driver or passenger door with the key.

Do this, roll down the driver window. Turn off and remove the key. Lock the truck with the electric door lock switch. Close the door. Wait about two to three minutes and then reach in and open the door using the inside handle. If it is a factory alarm it will go off.

The factory alarm can be shut off using the key in the driver (or passenger door). Turn the key to the unlock position. The alarm will shut off.

Factory alarms do not need remotes to work. They can be armed with either the electric lock button or by simply locking the truck with the key. Disarm is done by unlocking either door with the key.
