Well if anyone doesn't know, I got a in a little fender bender yesterday afternoon. My airbags did deploy, the steering wheel and passenger dash. I was curious as to how to replace the airbags in both of these. Can you do it yourself or do you have to have a dealership re-install them?

Did they total your truck? Usually when they deploy they total it out. It's not just replacing the airbags, you have to replace the airbags, the sensors, wiring, harnesses, etc. Can you say big bucks?

I figured so. I'm thinking that I'm just going to cut off the bags and say screw it. I don't have that kind of money to replace it.

I don't believe you can pass inspection then, but I don't know your state laws so I can't comment.

Indiana doesn't have inspections, at least I've never had to go through one the 4 years I've been driving. And my parents have never once mentioned it, so I think I'm in the clear. We don't plan on getting rid of or selling the truck, so I guess it's just a matter of when I get the money to do so.

It should not cost that much. Replace the air bags and sensors (if they are damaged). Rest the module by pulling the power (disconnet battery and turn ignition to on then off). Install new air bags and re-connect battery.

I had to pull my air bag off one time becuase the dealer forgot to tighten a screw on the cruise control pads.

Pull it off? they pull straight out?

LOL, you have to replace EVERYTHING related with the airbags if you want to be safe and make sure each and every sensor will function properly if you were to get in another accident. Airbag systems are no joke.
