Air Shocks, F-150 to Ranger

So I have a question to pose to the suspension gurus. I think I already know, but I just want a second opinion before I do this.

I came into a set of Monroe air adjustable rear shocks, PN MA775, pretty free because the parts were mis-packaged. It is missing the air line and fitting kit, which I can get for about $10.

Anyway, I grabbed them not knowing what they fit or what was wrong with them, just that they were free and heavy. I figured worst case they'd make a nice addition to the scrap heap. Then I looked them up and found they are for an early to mid-90s F-150 and the package is only missing the line kit.

I pulled up the spec sheets for the set I have, and the Ranger set, and I am thinking these will actually fit, just wanted another set of eyes on this.

The Ranger ones are actually .3" longer at compressed length, and .6"longer at full extension. My truck isn't lifted at all, and I'm not doing anything crazy with it. My rear springs don't hold up to heavy weights as well as they used to, and with the Explorer axle and 31" tires I start rubbing in the rear with only a few hundred pounds in the bed. My only goal here is to get my tires out of my fenders.


So with all that laid out, this should work, right?

I run the MA770 on my '98 and they have performed very well. I built a receiver hitch attachment for hauling 16' lumber and these air shocks have allowed me to haul a fairly large and long load. The F150 shocks should be just fine as long as the mounts are the same.

These air shocks will lift the ass-end nicely. Depending on how you plumb the air lines, You can also remove the dreaded ford lean on the drivers side.

Cool. I'm not 100% sure how I am going to plumb them, other than it WILL be a parallel system, with one line feeding both shocks so they pump up evenly.

Thanks for the input Doofy. I' guess I'll pick up the line kit at work tonight and look at getting them setup tomorrow. I was going to get an air helper kit, but was dreading trying to come up with about $300 for one without a compressor. These out to fill that role nicely.


I found these suckers and an unopened 6V/12V battery charger in the "special handling" bin (trash can) last night before closing. I laid them on top of the can and slipped them into my car when I took the trash out.

Yeah, so far I am not loving the new job over all, not hating it but not loving it, but I do love trash duty. I keep a close eye on the trash can for the "special handling" label and make sure I park out of sight of the single camera there. Then when something good comes up I just slip it in the truck instead of the dumpster.

So far I have gotten two battery chargers and these shocks.

I applaud your efforts to keep perfectly good items out of the landfill. The waste in this country is deplorable and we should all be ashamed. I am sure that if you can't find a use for the stuff...someone can.

The waste on Canada is deplorable too. Once upon a time I could go to the scrap yard and buy material to use, not any more. The yard said they are paid to destroy any materials or goods so they don't end up back in circulation. You can blame capitalism for this as the corporation figures if you recycle, you're not buying, and that's bad for profits. It makes me cry to see some of what gets crushed.
