Hi all! I was just wondering if anyone knew where to get a short ram air intake system? Or is it something that I would have to make myself. Any help would be great. Its for a 89 ranger 2.9L automatic.

What are you expecting to accomplish with this? If it's more power, your wasting your time! If you just want more noise, you will get that.

It will have to be homemade. There's one from a Neon I believe that sort of fits, but most permutations I have seen suck hot air from under the hood.

You do not want a short intake system, if it is not pulling fresh air from outside of the engine bay, you are wasting your time. This is how the factory set up works, and is generally why a lot will say to stay away from putting on different intake tubing (because it's usually done wrong).

You would probably be better off modifying the stock intake system and getting a K&N drop in if you really wanted to go that route. Air boxes are nice, they keep things clean.

Ram air is actually sort of a different beast, this is why it can't be short - it uses the air pressure from the truck moving, and that air pressure comes from the front of the truck. This is why I suggested you might be able to do better with modifying the stock intake. Nothing wrong with standard paper filters, but the air filter you run is your preference.

its a 2.9l, fast was not its intention. if all your duct work is still in place then the original set up is proabbly as good of a design as you can get.

Yeah i wasn't looking for more power. I know the intakes don't do anything on a 4 or 6 cylinder. I just like the sound. but the advice was great. thanks
