Air intake code and trans shifts hard same day

I was out getting firewood, had trailer attached and was in low range. Shifting from R to D to R to D frequently trying to back the trailer up a wash. After that the trans started bang shifting especially first to second, but all are rough. And the check engine light is on. P0102 which is air in the intake from an unknown source. My first thought was I must have pulled the hose off the transmission modulator. But it's a 2001 and doesn't seem to have one.

What would cause both hard shifting and non regulated air in the intake on the same day? These have to be related somehow. But it seems the transmission shifts are computer modulated. Fair enough, what tells the computer that the engine is low vacuum? No vacuum modulator like the earlier transmissions.

Both issues began at the same time. Low Range 4WD backing a trailer up a wash which required frequent shifts from R to D.

Shifts take place at the correct time. I don't have to rev rpm beyond what the normal shift should take place. It shifts on time, but bang hard. I've been running around town in "2" so it doesn't have to shift hard all the time.

Somebody at least give this a try>?

I would track down the vacuum (air) leak and see how it runs when that is fixed. The leak could be anywhere. Don't just focus in on the transmission
The hard shifts might just be a symptom, not the problem.
