anybody got any ideas on how to better waterproof the airbox on a SOHC 4.0? my airfilter saved my butt yesterday when it stopped some water offroading and id like to ensure i dont have to worry about water in my intake cause yesterday scared the Sh&t out of me. maybe some sort of sheet metal shield or any other ideas would be appreciated

it was just a little splash the mudhole had a foot and a half of mud and a little water on top and i was going a bit faster than i needed to to make it through but im just thinking it could use some "just in case" mods. i dont plan on driving in water that much lol

Put a snorkle on it, you can make the air box 100% air tight, but as soon as water get up to the inlet hole of the air box, it will suck water (obviously)

also, i was bored and was reading the owners manual of my truck and something note worthy i found what it has a warning stating "operation in deep water may cause transmission damage" if you have the manual tranny i wouldnt worry, but if you have the automatic like me, you may want to look at the tranny and try and figure out why they put that warning in the manual and do something to prevent damage. My guess is the breather line for the trans may need relocating to avoid sucking water in the trans aswell.

just make a cowl snorkel, its in the tech library, its invisible, and very functional, i have had it for a few years now and had zero issues

all you need to do it extend the vent hose up as high as possible so water cannot enter when you go thru a mud/water hole, same for the front and rear axles, and transfer case
