I,m trying to run down a problem with the air bag system in my 2002 Ranger. The code flashing on the dash light is 19. I made several visual checks, and with a multimeter, but still don't know exactly what I've got. One thing that throws me is that, when checking contnuity on the air bag wires coming up through the steering column, they read as the same wire. What I mean is that I can get 0 ohms between the two wires, like they are shorted. Are they supposed to be two seperate wires? Any other suggestions on this problem would be welcome.
Thanks, Rickrmf

0 ohms is correct. When voltage is applied, the mercury fulminate is fired, and the circuit is broken. This explosion blows open the flammable gas storage cylinder that inflates the air bag. The broken circuit indicates to the computer that the bag has fired.

I wish I could help you with the code 19, but I no longer have direct access to the reference materials.

Hey rick, I looked up your code on the Ford PTS site, 19 flashes translates into a b1231 code in your module. It states that the "crash data memory is full". The Ford manual shows no diagnostics and states that the restraint control module must be replaced. Can't say I've ever run into that one before!
