I was in an accident that involved my airbag being deployed, i just got all the parts for the steering and got her running and turning again. I just want to know before i go further and fix body, what is the process in getting the airbag light off??

I understand i will need a new airbag which i have been also working on, but do i need to reset the computer or buy new airbag sensors if equipped? or what are the correct steps for getting the airbag system up and running again. My truck is a 1996 Ranger 3.0 4WD 5 speed

I really dont need an airbag anymore because im using the truck for hauling and side vehicle but im pretty sure it wont pass inspection without one if it already had one.?

Thanks

I think there is an air bag switch on the core suport. Not sure u need a new one. And if you do have to reset the computer. You can check with a body shop or local ford service center

Generally you will need to replace any pyrotechnic device (air bag or seatbelt pretensioner) that was deployed, the crash sensors, and the airbag control module.

If you are in Bethlehem PA then no, you don't actually have to have a functioning airbag system for state inspection. You will need to replace the steering wheel's airbag because it contains the horn switch, and the horn has to work, but none of the rest of the system is required to be present or functional for state inspection under PA motor vehicle code.

If you are in another state that might not be correct.

nice i was hoping that i did not even need to replace anything.. i do infact live in pa. and i wont be using truck for any serious driving anyway. I still do understand it is a safety factor but i am willing to take that risk until i get the money and parts to fix it.

From what i have read and looked and seen on my truck, i do not believe i have any seat belt pretensioners. I do know that i have 2 frontal crash sensors and i think its stupid you have to replace them, you would think after crash and there is no more g forces upon car they would be back to normal? but i guess that's just another safety measure. Does anyone know if there is a way to test them to see if they have already been activated? (say i were to pull them off bone yard)?

But i basically have to get an airbag anyway for the horn to be operational? how do i go about putting in an airbag without it deploying again, without replacing everything yet?

I am also going to stop by my local ford dealers garage and try to pick there brains a little, along with my local mechanic and or body shop.

Sorry for so many questions and thanks for responses stegomon and adsm08 they have helped a lot.
