First thing first, doner is a 93 thunderbird

k, ive dove head first into the engine control computer harness.... but its nothing like i expected. Theres 2 connectors near the computer connector. Ones got a bunch of power wires, i kindda shurged that one off as its probably just something for the interior coming threw the same harness and grommet.

But the other one really worries me. Its got the VSS wires going directly from the computer to this connector. Also its got a bunch of wires coming from the engine harness(the harness with the injectors). Most of those are temp sender, oil sender, that kind of stuff.

So far this is what i have found on that connector(numbers are the tags on the wires)
1 W/R Oil pressure sender
3 R/W Temp sender
4 PK/LG Check engine light
7 DG/W VSS +
8 G/R VSS -
9 W/PK Dash Tac Signal

GY/R
DG/W
T/LG(goes to the diag connector then has another thats the same colour attached in the same place going to the computer)
LB/PK "Data output line (fuel flow)" i assume that means gas gauge?
O/W "programable ride control output"
P Somthing for the compressor

Those are most of the wires on there, is there some kind of module that all this crap goes too? should i try to get it? can i leave it out?

Its mostly the VSS, the diagnostic connector wire, and the fuel flow ones that worry me.

Thanx

heres a link for you that will help you understand things a little better. somebody here sent it to me when i was doing my 351 ranger. it never got done because of the woman in my life keep throwing me the curve balls to screw up my life, lol.
i hope you have better luck than me.:icon_thumby:

Thanx but ive got all that info... hummm i think im just going to ignore these connectors and keep going

VSS would go back into the car to hook up to the cruise control module...

You're probably fine. Seems like it's just a plug that went to the dash for the most part.

I feel your pain.. I just picked up everything from a 89 town car to do a fuel injection swap, and will be looking at meshing it's harness with my 85 BII and probably a 2.9 1st gen to get the fuel pump circuit and get the computer in the stock spot since the big car's had it on the driver's side...

its just the interface harness to the dash and c.c....

wow.... I'm hating this, i wish i didn't pull the truck apart over a year before i put the 5.0L in! I dont remember where anything goes, how it gets there, and where any of the wires are on the ranger side of things.

Im mostly down to gauges and A/c wiring now. I think the one thing that would make this easier would be to have the battery in, and hooked up with the computer disconnected so i could do tests to verify 110% that im splicing the correct wires. But for that to work i would also need the dash and its wires/components installed.

Look on ebay or Amazon for an Electrical and Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual (EVTM) for both the Ranger and the donor vehicle. I went through both manuals and located the connectors I had to splice by looking at the drawings in the book. I highlighted the connectors with different colors (in my case 2 connectors green and brown marked C201 and C135 on the 89 mustang for example) then I searched every schematic in the book for those connector numbers and highlighted them and the wires going to and from them to see where they go. Through process of elimination you should be able to narrow it down. Keep in mind that Ford wiring harnesses never match the schematic exactly so most of the wire colors won't match the book but at least you'll have a better idea of what the wires in the connectors go to. Those EVTMs are a lot cheaper than the Helm Electrical Manual I bought for all trucks and vans in 1984, but that one helped me alot too. Good Luck.

Thanx, Ive got digital manuals on the computer. But i didn't have any ink for the printer at the time and they cartige was kindda pricey so i couldn't get one right away. Once i got the printer some ink it was alot easier than trying to memorize what i saw on one page then scroll to the next and back and forth... it was brutal!

Ive got the harness done now. All ive got left is extending some of the wires that go threw the firewall. Like the VSS wire harness with the 4 wires on it, and one of the inertia switch wires. Thats going to be done by lunch.

Next is going to be bolt up the flywheel, torqure converter, and starter. I'm going to see if my hard work has paid off today!
