Aerostar 10 inch Drums on 98+ Rangers info needed

I have done several searches now and need a definitive answer.

Well I was going to replace the rear drums on my 02 Ranger and was thinking about doing an upgrade to increase performance. I saw the Tech Library article about how the Aerostar had fins on the 10 inch to decrease fade and decided to purchase a set. Currently waiting on them to come in, which should be in about an hour or so, and while searching for some other information came across an article that stated that the Aerostar's drums wouldn't fit on 98+ Rangers due to the difference in the hub size.

If this is so, I hope that there is an easy way to modify them so that they will fit and THIS NEEDS TO BE INCLUDED IN THE TECH LIBRARY to prevent further misinformation.

As far as I know, 28 spline Ranger axles should be good. I put them on my 31 spline Explorer axle and had to have the hubs lathed out.

Not sure what you paid for yours, but even with $15 apiece machine time they were still cheaper than the stock Explorer drums, still can't figure that one out.

Yeah, I have the 31 spline (02 Fx4 Ranger). Got the Aerostar drums in and took a drum off the Ranger and compared. I guess it's somewhere near 100 to 200 thousandths difference (need a dial caliper bad ). I am unfortunately a machinist without a lathe or a mill..... Going into town sometime tomorrow to get the drums cut to the originals.

I swear I will have at least a lathe before I die!
